About the Programme

The University invites online applications for admission to the Masters of Arts in Intellectual Property Law and Management (M.A. Degree Programme)/ Master of Law in Intellectual Property Law and Management (LL.M. Degree Programme).

The programme is being jointly offered by National Law University Delhi (NLUD), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM – Indian IP Office). The Degree granting authority for this programme is National Law University Delhi. However, the transcript/degree certificate shall bear the logos of all the partnering institutions.

Degree or from diverse fields of non-legal backgrounds seeking a Master's Degree, the Programme is structured in such a way that it provides a comprehensive pathway to expertise in the dynamic realm of Intellectual Property Law and Management.

The National Law University Delhi (NLUD) signed a tripartite letter of intent with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM - Indian IP Office), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India for launching the Joint Masters/ LL.M. Degree in IP Law and Management under the aegis of the WIPO India Action Plan, 2023.

The Programme heralds a new era of education, emphasizing holistic development, a multidisciplinary approach and embracing internationalisation. Further, recognizing the evolving landscape where IP intersects with law, science, technology, business and management, the programme has been crafted with a unique curriculum guided by distinguished experts from around the globe. It is tailored to meet the diverse needs of the professionals encompassing different domains.

Eligibility

Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Intellectual Property Law and Management (One Year Programme): -

  • Candidates must have completed two bachelor's degrees in succession, including one in the relevant discipline; or
  • An integrated degree programme of five years in the relevant discipline after completing plus two; or
  • An equivalent post-graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university; or
  • Candidates completing a four-year Bachelor’s programme with Honours/Research, from a recognized university
  • In all the above mentioned cases, the candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (50% for reserved categories such as SC/ST/Persons with Disability).

Master of Law (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property Law and Management (One Year Programme)

  • Candidate should have completed LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (50% for reserved categories such as SC/ST/Persons with Disability).

How to Apply

Indian Nationals & Officials of the CGPDTM -

Interested candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria will have to appear for the All-India Entrance Examination consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) which will have 70% weightage. The remaining 30% weightage will be allocated with distribution of 15% each between the interview and written personal statements submitted during filing of the application. Two times the number of available seats shall be called for the interview based on the performance in the written entrance examination.

Foreign Nationals –

The candidates who possess the citizenship of a country other than India will only be considered under this category. Such candidates are exempted from taking the Written Entrance Examination. Their admission shall be made on satisfying the prescribed criteria of (i) academic record of the qualifying degree; (ii) written and spoken English – TOEFL/IELTS; (iii) Written Personal Statement; and (iv) Interview. The candidates for the interview will be called in the ratio of 2:1 based on the cumulative score of the academic record and TOEFL/IELTS result.
