Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program
The National Institute of Technology Durgapur (NIT Durgapur) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration. It is a fully-funded premier Institute of National Importance under MHRD, Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors. The Institute is a University which awards UG, PG and Doctorate Degrees. The Institute is going to offer the following new courses under the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences from the next academic year 2017-18.
Program Objectives:
• To foster scientific knowledge about the dynamics of problems and issues in our society.
• To cultivate the ability to analyze the ideologies that lead to systematic domination and marginalization of vulnerable groups.
• To promote necessary skills of awareness, skills aiming at empowerment of people and skills in culture-sensitive methods of social change.
• To provide training in applying skills in social work practice and social work research in different fields for achieving desirable changes and development.
• To enhance people’s capacity for social functioning and promote social justice.
• To foster attitudes and values necessary for working with people and organizations, both governmental and non-governmental for achieving the goals of social work profession namely .
Program Outcome:
- It will provide multiple perspectives to analyse and engage with social issues.
- The programme will enable students to locate the role of a social worker as a professional specialisation within this context.
- The programme will also enable students to understand and engage with disadvantaged communities and develop new strategies to serve their interests.
- It will help students to understand local contexts and work with local communities.
- It will help the youth to involve in the process of implementation of different socio-economic development projects of central and state governments.
Eligibility Criteria:
Graduate in any Discipline or its equivalent from recognized university / Institute with at least 55% of marks and 60% in class 10 and 10+2 level from any recognized board/university.
