National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur is one of the Institute of National Importance for Technical Education in India. This was formerly known as Regional Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur is an Institution of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament (Act 29 of 2007) namely, the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, which received the assent of the President of India on the 5^th June, 2007. The provision of the Act has come into force with effect from 15^th August, 2007 as per NotificationS.O.1384 (E) dated 9^th August, 2007 of the MHRD (Department of Higher Education), New Delhi. As per the provision of the said Act, this Institution runs on non profitable basis. NIT Jamshedpur offers academic programmes: B. Tech. (Hons.), M. Tech., MCA and Ph.D. in the various disciplines. NIT Jamshedpur has well qualified faculty and dedicated supporting staff.

Research areas:

American Literature, English Literature, Indian Writing in English Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria:

• For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS)
• Master’s Degree in Humanities (English) or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.0 CGPA or 60% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
• Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. Programme
• who holds a valid CSIR/NBHM/UGC-NET fellowship

Admission to Part-time Research Scholar (PRS) Category

The essential requirements for admission to part-time research scholar category are given below:

Admission Criterion

• The people working in National research laboratories / R&D organizations having Research MOU with NIT Jamshedpur
• The people working in PSU’s / Industries having ongoing Research MOU with NIT Jamshedpur.
•  The Institute Faculty at NIT Jamshedpur on regular or contract basis. If a candidate is registered this category but not continue as a faculty of the Institute, he/she may be considered as full-time research scholar if he/she fulfils the qualifications and eligibility criteria or he/she may be continue as part-time scholar without any fellowship (financial support) from the Institute.

Academic Qualifications

Bachelors/Masters Degree in Engineering/Technology or in the appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University

Master's Degree in Sciences/Humanities/Social Sciences/Management/Computer applications or in the appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
