Policies and programs to eliminate violence

In all societies women are less educated, they earn less, and they are exposed to violence and threats, and are more poor and powerless than men. Given this scenario, we urgently require policies and programs to eliminate violence, to ensure a safe society that promotes their free and uninhibited mobility in public sphere, provide secure livelihood and access to economic resources, political participation, education, and healthcare.

Empowerment of women is an important process by which women acquire agency and control over their own lives, bodies and choices that they make. The United Nations Guidelines on

Women’s Empowerment has five components:

1. Women’s sense of self-worth;

2. Their right to have and to determine choices;

3. Their right to have access to opportunities and resources;

4. Their right to have power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; and

5. Their ability to influence the direction of social change to create a more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally
