Climate Tracker specialises in connecting with great young journalists all over the world. Since 2015 the organization has delivered cutting edge training, innovative media campaigns, and brought incredibly talented teams of young reporters to the UN climate negotiations. It has delivered in-person trainings in more than 30 countries, hundreds of online webinars, and awarded travel scholarships to more than 350 young journalists.

About the Fellowship:

The organization is partnering with the Leonardo Di Caprio Foundation to help mentor climate journalists and writers. Five aspiring and emerging climate journalists will be selected from different regions to participate in online mentorship with Climate Tracker. They’ll receive guidance and training , will publish articles and videos for the LDF One Earth website, and receive a monthly stipend of USD 150.

The topic of climate change is often over whelming and apocolyptic. In the spirit of the  One Earth climate model, one need  to demonstrate how we can solve the global climate crisis with currently available technologies. Funded by the Leonardo Di Caprio Foundation and released by Springer Nature, it offers a roadmap for meeting -- and surpassing -- the targets set by the Paris Climate Agreement. The One Earth climate model shows the 1.5°C can be achieved through a rapid transition to 100% renewables by 2050, alongside land restoration efforts on every continent that increase the resilience of natural ecosystems and help to ensure greater food security.

Eligibility:

  • Stories about local solutions and responses to climate change. How have individuals, communities, or governments harnessed the powers of technology, science, community activism, policy, or others to solve the climate crisis?
  • Your article should be at least 500 words.  Preference is when writers have interviewed at least two people for their article -- for example, experts, community members, or policymakers. Including a thoughtful picture, graphic, or multimedia element is always appreciated
  • You have to find a news site, blog, newspaper, magazine, etc. Willing to publish your article. It can be at a national, regional, local or international level. Aim for the one with best outreach across the region.
  • You can publish in any language you prefer, we are looking specifically for writers in Spanish, English or French, but other languages are welcomed
  • People can be from Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia and Asia-Pacific.
  • Age limit of applicants should be between 18 and 30 years old, but you are encouraged to apply anyway if you do not fulfil this requirement.

How to Apply:

  • Write an article about local solutions and responses to climate change. How have individuals, communities, or governments harnessing the powers of technology, science, community activism, policy, or others to solve the climate crisis?
  • Publish your article. You have to find a media outlet: a news site, newspaper, magazine, etc. that is willing to publish your article. We will consider any platform that requires you work to go through an editor before publication. It can be published at a local, national, or international level. Aim for the one with best outreach across the region.
  • Submit your article to this platform.
  • Publish and submit your article by March 31, 2019.
