About the Organization

The CARE Project (Communicating Action and Resilience for Environmental Health in India) seeks to advance pathways that link communities living with fragile or endangered environments, such as those facing pollution, heat stress and disaster risks with health professionals, educators, and regulatory institutions through participatory action research and community-led environmental monitoring. By integrating scientific inquiry with local knowledge, the project aims to strengthen environmental health literacy and build resilience in regions where pollution and climate stressors intersect with public health.

About the Fellowship  

Climate change is not just an environmental issue — it is a growing public health concern. The impacts are wide-ranging, from respiratory illnesses and waterborne diseases to food insecurity and heat stress. Beyond these well-known consequences, climate change is also taking a toll on mental health — an emerging area of concern that often goes unnoticed. Yet, these intersections between environment, climate, and health remain underreported, particularly in regional and rural media. 

The VOICE Fellowship, under the CARE Project (Communicating Action and Resilience for Environmental Health), aims to build the capacity of rural and regional communicators and content creators to understand and convey these critical linkages. The programme focuses on training and reflection, providing a platform for participants to deepen their knowledge and explore new approaches to storytelling around climate change and public health.

• 3 days of immersive training, fieldwork & collaborative learning

VOICE Lab is a one-of-its kind science communication training programme at IISER Pune that allows rural and regional communicators and content creators to undergo interactive sessions with scientists, health experts, and communication mentors, participants will:

• Build skills in evidence-based storytelling
• Understand the science behind climate and health risks
• Co-create a toolkit for community-based communication and content creation
• Present your own local issue that you would like to explore further
