Job Description

Poor communities when hit by unforeseen external calamities, have low capacity to deal with the calamities and have large likelihood to fall into abject poverty. This inability to sustain stress comes from the on ground social inequality, access to limited resources, inadequate systems of social security, warning and planning. Hence it becomes important to introduce safety nets for such communities. Safety nets are customized social programs/instruments, designed through bottom up approaches at the local and state level that are introduced with the communities, so that they can absorb the shock of any calamity/shock.

SELCO Foundation (SF) works actively on understanding and mapping various risks factors that communities face which can push them into abject poverty. As a result of the secondary and primary research, SF then designs relevant solutions, which to start with can be safety net for such communities. Geographies under focus of research study will be North Eastern India, Orissa and Jharkhand.
