Udayan in Sanskrit signifies 'eternal sunrise'. Shalini means 'a dignified woman'. Udayan Shalini Fellowships is an academic excellence and personality development programme for girls from weak socio-economic backgrounds. It provides financial assistance for higher education, mentoring and leadership development through workshops, while facilitating a sense of social responsibility and aims to turn them into dignified women.
This programme, which focuses on Education and Personality Development of its recipients, was launched in August 2002. Currently, it covers Delhi (2002), Kurukshetra (2004), Kolkata & Dehradun (2007), Aurangabad (2008), Phagwara, Haridwar & Gurgaon (2012), Jaipur (2013), Hyderabad (2015), Greater Noida and Mumbai (2016), Panchkula & Chennai (2017).
Its Unique Features Are:-
- It is not just a scholarship for education; it is an Education and Personality Development Programme.
- We screen our Fellows on a different set of parameters: NEED, AMBITION & TALENT; what we call NAT.
- We encourage pursuance of both; academic as well as vocational studies.
- We have a unique system of mentoring, where senior educationists commit their time and efforts to mentor and groom our Fellows.
- To develop our Fellows’ Personality, we conduct three monthly workshops for our Fellows, in which speakers from diverse fields address them and seek to widen their worldview.
- We inculcate social awareness in our fellows through compulsory exposure to social work for a prescribed number of hours during their fellowship tenure
Eligibility:-
- Female Indian citizen & resident of Delhi / Gurgaon / Kurukshetra / Dehradun / Haridwar / Kolkata / Aurangabad / Phagwara / Jaipur / Hyderabad / Mumbai / Greater Noida / Chennai / Panchkula.
- Candidates are required to obtain admission to the desired college, prior to seeking Fellowship.
- The applicant should be in class 11 from Government/ Government aided school & completed class 10th in present year.
- Minimum marks required for academic courses are 60% in class 10.
- Total income of the family members/guardian not to exceed Rs. 1, 80,000/- per year.
Selection Process:-
- Application to be made on the prescribed form. Last date of submitting form and venue & date of written test can be confirmed from the respective USF Centres. Details are given on page no. 2 & 3.
- All applications shall be screened on NAT Parameters.
- Short-listed candidates shall be called for a written test by the selection committee. Girl has to come in school uniform for the written test.
- Those who qualify the written test are interviewed along with their parents / guardian.
- Home visit will be conducted for those who qualify in the interview.
- Those selected would be called for induction and orientation.
- The selection will be done by the Udayan Shalini Fellowship core committee.
Fellowship Amount:
Senior Secondary School (Class 11) Rs.9000/- in a year in four instalments
