Nomination Process

National Olympic Committees, International Federations (Summer/Winter) on the Olympic programme and Continental Associations are entitled to propose a candidature using the official nomination form. IOC Women in Sport Commission Members that do not serve in the pre-selection committee can nominate a candidate as well.

A nominator is authorised to propose only one candidate. Self-nomination will not be considered.

The call for nominations will be posted on the IOC website (www.olympic.org), on IOC social media platforms and sent by the IOC to all of the above organisations electronically. NOCs will receive the information via NOCNET.

The completed nomination form should include a detailed description of achievements and a photograph of the candidate. It is important to provide supporting material such as certificates or awards, press articles, summary of reports, photographs or videos. All entries without exception must be submitted in French, English or Spanish. Submission of nominations must arrive at the IOC Secretariat by the deadline. Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered. Electronic submissions are accepted. The President or the Secretary General of the relevant organisation must endorse and sign the nomination form on behalf of the organisation.

Selection Process

Applications emphasising a strong commitment to the promotion and protection of women and girls, in and through sport at national, regional and/or international level will receive greater consideration than those highlighting the candidate’s own achievements.

On the basis of the above awards criteria, a pre-selection Jury composed of IOC Women in Sport Commission Members representing the five continents will review the nominations, propose the winners and then submit to the full Commission for the final selection.

Nominators will be informed and notified by the IOC of their candidate’s selection to win an IOC Women and Sport Award (Award) and will have 10 days from such notification to confirm the endorsement of their respective candidate. Absent such confirmation, the nominator’s candidate will not be eligible to receive the Award. Nominators who fail to present in the IOC awards candidature form will not be considered. Candidates and Award winners must, at all times, comply with the Olympic Charter.

Award Ceremonies

Award-winners shall be invited to attend the prize-giving ceremony on the terms outlined by the IOC. NOCs, Ifs and Continental Associations will be requested to recognise and celebrate the achievements of their candidates. The name of the winners will only be announced on the day of the ceremony. Nominators and Award Winners must respect this rule.

Follow-Up Measures

As an incentive to the awardees, the IOC may fund projects that the Award winners develop in cooperation with NOCs, IFs, the UN or NGOs, which should be aimed at promoting women and girls in and through sport. Award winners may be profiled nationally and regionally through a high-level Awards Ceremony as well as internationally. Their project/programme may widely be promoted on the IOC’s website, social feed and platforms.

Acceptance and Regulations

By their nomination for the award, and submission to the IOC, nominees accept the terms of these regulations and the decisions of the IOC and jury. To the extent permitted by law, Award nominees shall have no right of recourse (whether through ordinary courts or arbitration or other) with respect to the Award and, in particular, but without limitation, against the decisions of the IOC. Nominees release, discharge, waive and agree not to sue the IOC, its officers, agents, servants and employees

for any and all injuries, death or damage, liability for loss of personal property arising out of or attributable to the Award or receipt of the Award from whatever cause, including the active or passive negligence of the IOC, its officers, agents, servants, employees or any other nominees involved with the Award.
