Drame Ki Paathshaala

True learning happens when one risks to experiment with various aspects of the self, through expression and the willingness to change. Theatre as a process, and form of expression, opens up immense possibilities of building individual and collective consciousness.

So, let’s get together to explore creative and artistic ways of expressing our thoughts and feelings and create theatre for dialogue about issues that matter to us. Let us learn new ways of engaging with others and with our selves and make this a fun and enriching experience.

The workshop will end with a theatre performance which will have a unique way of engaging with the spectators, making them part of the play and start a dialogue. The aim of this workshop is to engage with theatre, music and art to express ourselves and learn about some basic theatre for change techniques.

What to expect from this workshop?

Draame ki Paatsthaala will have a learning-by-doing approach with theatre and art. We will focus on Theatre of the Oppressed techniques that were developed by Augusto Boal in this workshop. The Theatre of the Oppressed practice deeply respects the intellectual faculty of people and therefore has the potential to portray oppression and change the story. This form of theatre focuses not just on acting, but also action. It deliberates on the reflection of reality and a rehearsal for future action.

This workshop will focus on participatory process which offers people the possibility of identifying issues, articulating them in the form of short plays and creating a structure in which an active dialogue between the actors and the spectators is instigated in order to try and change the story. It will evoke an interactive mode of behaviour which stimulates evaluation, critical thinking and imaginative responses.

The work that we will do during these 6 days will be experiential with a summary and de-brief of the techniques we work with, on a periodic basis.

Time frame: 6 days; 20th to 25th April 2018
