About FPDI: Foundation for Population for development in India (FPD) is a non-profit organization working with children, women and youth of the underprivileged communities of Vakola, Santacruz to tackle educational and livelihood issues through multiple interventions. The approach of holistic development focused in a concentrated geographic location enables to positively impact individual, their families and their community. As part of livelihood program FPDI supports Self Help Groups with various vocational and self-development trainings enabling them to become a confident financially independent women

The Udaan brand is developed to provide a marketing platform to the women artisans of Self Help Groups. Through Udaan they would be able to reach out to new consumers by tapping in the online markets and offline retail opportunities. Udaan develops and sells eco-friendly lifestyle and fashion products. It provides sustainable choice to the end buyer while simultaneously providing supplementary income to the women artisans belonging to low income groups.  

About the Project: Udaan is creating a new project wherein, it will upcycle waste generated by offices and convert them into a range of products.

About the internship

Position:  Upcycle Product Designer

  • Assess quantity of the generated office waste and create base line report on the quantity and influencing factors
  • Research on existing products  available in market created by utilization of  waste paper, cups, plastic pet  bottles and other office waste  
  • Ideate product using the available material and create prototypes
  • Conduct market research with small sample of prospective consumers
  • Work closely with SHG women to understand their capacity and ability of  developed products
  • Create manual for standardized production and quality indicators for the finalized product.  

Eligibility Criteria

  • Pursuing or completed degree in fine arts or commercial arts (Desirable  but not mandatory )
  • Proven  experience (personal or professional) in crafts
  • Creative bend of mind and good aesthetic sense
  • Passion for environment with a rational approach

Duration 2-3 months
