Drought Relief  initiative by Bajaj Auto Limited

Project Detail

Two years of drought in the country have highlighted the need for water conservation and increasing water availability through deepening of nullahs and other means. Bajaj Auto has been working with Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha (JBGVS and has now expanded the size and scope of this activity to make it a focus area. In Aurangabad district, during 2015-16, work was carried out for creating water storage capacity of 2.18 lakh cum. in 10 villages, benefitting 2,500 families. The Government of Maharashtra declared its first list of villages to be taken up for water conservation, following which Bajaj Auto has selected 42 villages for the first phase, out of which 34 are listed in Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan. The work was launched in 7 villages of Aurangabad district to create 21 lakh cum. water conservation capacity. Work for 76,000 cum. has been completed.

Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital - a healthcare initiative by Bajaj Auto Limited

Project Details

Bajaj group gives substantial support to this trust that runs Kamalnayan Bajaj hospital. Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital is at the forefront of medical technology and expertise and provides a complete range of latest diagnostic, medical, surgical equipment and advanced procedural facilities, including open heart surgeries and organ transplantation. The hospital also organised 38 free camps involving 4,748 patients, viz., 5 Cataract camps (518 patients), 1 Orthopaedic camp (65 patients), 1 ECG camp (76 patients), 3 2D Echo Camps (416 patients), 17 Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana camps (2,347 patients), 1 Endurance Health Check-up (454 patients), 1 Blood Donation Camp (115 donors), 2 Hematology Camp (203 patients), 1 Eye check-up camp (157 patients), 1 Neurology camp (163 patients), 1 Cancer nutrition camp (86 patients), 1 Gastroenterology camp (14 patients) and 1 Clinical Genetics camp (48 patients).The company has also created a charity fund to deal with the poor patients While the treatment for BPL patients is free, for Economic Weak sections, it is subsidised to the extent of 50%. Till date, the benefit of this scheme is extended to 15,913 patients with Rs. 6.06 crore approx., spent on it.

 

 

 

Adoption and Running of Municipal School By Thermax Limited

Project Details

Committed to the cause of education, Thermax Foundation (erstwhile Thermax Social Initiative Foundation) has been working to improve the quality of municipal schools where students are from economically weaker sections. The objective of the programme is to offer quality education, thus helping children break out of the cycle of poverty. The Foundation along with its NGO partner Akanksha and the Municipal Corporations of Pune and Pimpri- Chinchwad (PMC and PCMC) has financially helped set up eight schools. Two schools successfully participated in the Design for Change (DFC) Projects, a global initiative instituted in 2009 and operating in 33 countries to encourage innovative practices in educational institutions. At the Late Anantrao Pawar Memorial English Medium School (APMS), a project by 4th and 5th grade students, ‘Small Bench and Long Legs’ addressed the issue of taller students not being able to use the classroom benches. It was selected as one of the five ‘Most Innovative Stories of Change’ and won the school team a cash award of Rs. 50,000. K.C. Thackeray School’s project on ‘Making KCT A Bully Free School’ was highlighted in the DFC newsletter as the story that most touched the hearts and souls’ of the judges. The school got a cash award of Rs.10,000 for the project. Both the schools were selected from over 2,500 participating schools. The Foundation constructed two more floors in the school to help manage the growing numbers of students.

Education and Livelihood Projects by Kotak Mahindra Bank

Project Details

Implemented through Kotak Education Foundation (KEF), which was set up in 2007 with a purpose to support children and youth from underprivileged families through different education based interventions and skilling programmes. KEF takes a holistic and innovative approach to helping the urban poor break free from the vicious cycle of extreme poverty and generational disadvantages. KEF has partnered with 36 schools, majority of which are Located in the poorest wards of Mumbai. Livelihood training is provided at 7 centres spread across the poorest neighbour hoods of the city. In 2015-16, KEF has touched nearly 50,000 youngsters through its nine interventions. The ‘Mid-day Meal ‘ programme catering to approximately  4620 students from 14 partner schools, provides nutritious meal to pre-primary, 9th std and 10th std school children which are excluded from government’s mid-day meal programme.

 

Cummins Scholarship Programme by Cummins India Limited

At Cummins, the belief goes that education is a necessary tool and a foundation to uplift the weaker sections of society. What distinguishes the Cummins Scholarship Program is that it aims for gender equality by providing girls a platform to opt for higher education in the stream of engineering, medicine, teaching, nursing, etc. The Cummins Scholarship Program reserves 60% of the seats for female candidates. So far, Cummins has awarded 233 scholarships to such deserving and meritorious children coming from disadvantage backgrounds. The program offers:

  • Scholarship which includes college fee, stationery reimbursement and laptops
  • Communication with schools, junior colleges, engineering colleges, diploma institutions,NGOs & Trusts offering educational assistance
  • Zero liability in terms of bond or any other condition for repayment of the scholarship on students
  • Mentorship projects and internship opportunities
    • This program contributes in a large way to the organization’s initiative of Every Employee Every Community (EEEC) which mandates an employee to devote minimum 4 hours of their working time towards any community-related project undertaken by Cummins.

Tuberculosis Eradication Project by Lupin Limited

Project Details

Lupin along with Rotary Club, Mumbai, announced a joint anti-TB campaign – on 24 March,2015 marked as World TB Day – to create awareness about TB as well as detect and combat the disease in Mumbai. Under this campaign, TB camps will be conducted across 150 Rotary Clubs in Mumbai. Lupin will ensure adequate resources including trained volunteers and specialists who will assist in detecting and handholding cases at these camps. One camp will be held every quarter at each club, resulting in a total of 600 camps across Mumbai in a year. The primary aim is to enhance awareness and ensure timely diagnosis and treatment. In addition, ward-to-ward screening will be done with the support of other partners and groups through an active case-finding approach. The detected cases will be referred to the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) centres in the public sector or a public–private interface agency (PPIA) for free treatment and care. 

Mid Day Meal Scheme by Rashtriya Chemical & Fertilizers Ltd.

  • Location:- Vishnu Nagar, Gadkari Khan, Nagababa Nagar, Panjarpol, Khadi Machine, Azad Nagar,  Bharat Nagar, Shankar Deul, VashiGaon, Vadvali Gaon, Dosti Acres and adjoining areas of Trombay, Mumbai (Maharashtra)

Project Details

RCF has started Mid Day Meal Scheme in non govt aided schools of Maharashtra which goes a long way in giving proper nutrition to the children in their area.  ISKCON, a renowned Food Relief Foundation supplies good and healthy meal to the children on behalf of RCF. Fresh seasonal vegetable, cereals etc. keep these lunches healthy, well balanced and interesting.   In all 6000 students are   availing the benefit of this nutritious meal through the scheme. The objectives of the scheme are:

  • Improve the effectiveness of primary education by improving the nutritional status of children thereby reducing malnutrition.
  • Attract children from disadvantaged sections, especially girls from Dalits and Adivasi tribes to school, thereby increasing attendance, reducing dropout rates & promoting women empowerment through literacy.
  • Promote a feeling of oneness and secularism amongst various different religions and cultures

 

Jal Dhan Project – a watershed project by Rallis India Limited

  • Location:- Lote, Latur, Beed, Akola, Anegaon, Kelcha Mal (Maharashtra)

Project Details

The Company started its intervention in Lote (Konkan Region of Maharashtra). The Konkan region is blessed with heavy rainfall every monsoon, yet faces water scarcity during summers due to its hilly terrain and lack of proper storage structure for rainwater. Based on need assessment, Integrated Watershed project was designed in the vicinity of a 5 km radius, focusing on harvesting rain water to make villagers water sufficient and motivate small farmers to opt for second crop from available water and focusing on overall development of villagers. In the current year, Maharashtra has faced severe drought, with Marathwada region being the worst affected. Keeping this in mind, Rallis has identified 8 villages from Latur and Beed districts and initiated water conservation work like desilting and repairing existing structures and creating new structures like check dams. This has been appreciated by villagers as well as local government authorities. Under Jal Dhan project, across Maharashtra 62,941 people were potential beneficiaries, out of which 20,600 belonged to the Affirmative Action community.

 

Child Education Project by eClerx Services Limited

Project Details

Following the commitment of being participants of progress by supporting initiatives in education and child welfare to help measurably improve the lives of underprivileged children, the eClerx Services supported SAMPARC, a non-government organisation that is working to empower the poor, needy children and disadvantaged community people to maximize their potential & enable them to become Independent & Self- Reliant. Various activities funded by eClerx are:

  • eClerx funds support Samparc for rural and tribal underprivileged children of Mulshi village
  • Project to support SAMPARC school and hostel, Bhambarde;
  • Project for Higher Education Support for senior girls of SAMPARC;
  • Special education support for the children of Shel-Pimpalgaon and Poynad Balgram;
  • Vocational training support to the rural school dropouts;
  • Capital expenses Project - fencing of girls children’s home (Orphanage) Bhaje and construction of girls hostel at Bhambarde;
  • Construction of Girls Toilet at Maval & Mulshi Taluka Dist Pune, under the Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya Scheme

Water Neutrality Project by Cummins India Limited

  • Implementing Partner: -  Green Thumb
  • Amount Spent: - 1.44 crores
  • Thematic Area: - Ensuring environmental sustainability, ecological balance, wildlife & natural resources conservation
  • Location: - Pune, Maharashtra

Project Details

 Khadakwasla Lake Rejuvenation project, in partnership with the NGO, Green Thumb, Cummins has been engaging in the de-silting of the Khadakwasla Lake, creating a recharge of close to 3,373 million gallons of water, till date. Ahead of the World Environment Day on June 5, close to 200 Cummins employees volunteered to plant an additional 5,000 trees at the banks of the lake. In the first two phases, following desilting of a 1.5 km-stretch, the soil unearthed from the bottom of the lake was recycled to create a green belt surrounding the periphery of the dam. This belt has now become a habitat for various species of birds and butterflies as well as a pleasant walk-way for nature lovers. Hume pipes were installed and the two exiting culverts were cleaned for collecting the surface run-off water. The company has also initiated the third phase of the water neutrality drive.
