CSR funds to upgrade 335 crematoriums

As many as 335 crematoriums and burial grounds across Gurugram are being upgraded with better infrastructure and facilities, using funds sourced from private companies under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme. Sources said the project as part of the Shivdham Navinikaran Yojana would cost a total of Rs 14.5 crore, of which around Rs 9 crore would come from the CSR funds.

As per the plans, 302 cremation sites and 33 burial grounds will be developed, providing water connections, sheds, boundary walls and road connectivity. Currently, many of those sites do not have any basic facilities. Recommended by Colombia The project was launched in September, and currently work is going on in Kherki Majra, Babupur and Bamdoli villages. “Road connectivity is the biggest challenge for us,” said a senior district official. Another official said initially, funds from the rural development, village and panchayat departments (Rs 3.80 crore) and the state government (Rs 90 lakh) was used.

However, the project still needs funds around Rs 9 crore, which will now be provided under the new CSR policy formulated by the state government earlier this month. The project will be completed by March 2019, official said. On November 12, Haryana hosted its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) summit. Also, an advisory board, headed by the chief minister, has been formed to guide private companies as to how to utilise their CSR funds.
