CSR initiative changes face of Palike school

A CSR initiative has changed the face of a BBMP school, much to the joy of the parents.

More than a hundred children study at Shishu Vihar, BBMP’s nursery and primary school in Lakkasandra.

Perceived as a destination for children from economically and socially weaker sections, the Palike-run schools were often known for lack of infrastructure and quality education. However, things have changed for good at Shishu Vihar school ever since the Mahindra Tech Foundation adopted it as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR). With the help of Indian Institute of Montessori Studies, the Foundation is providing learning aids to these children.

The school celebrated two years of the modern learning programme for nursery students on Wednesday. Assistant Commissioner (education) K R Pallavi attended the programme and hailed the initiative.

The head mistress of the nursery school Seeta Bai Chawan said the school has proved a boon for many families living below the poverty line as the husband and wife can go to work, leaving their children in the school. The progress made by the children is remarkable with the new learning kits. The three-year-olds are able to count and arrange English and Kannada alphabets in proper order.
