ITI and KVK helps state to get 1.80 lakh masks through “Mission Mask”

Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Kaushal Vikas Kendras run by the labour & Employment started “Mission Mask” in view of the shortage of face masks.

“ITI and KVKs are equipped with sewing machines since they also offer training in sewing.  Labour department though of utilizing the machines that were lying idle since classes in it is and KVKs as the session as are not going due to ongoing nationwide lockdown. The ITIs thought the infrastructure can be utilized to make masks. Hence all ITIs instructed to approach with the proposal to the district administration,” said Vipul Mittra IAS, additional chief secretary, Labour and Employment Department, which runs the ITIs.

146 ITI and KVK put together has made close to 1.80 lakh masks till date for the state.

The ITIs reached out to students of the current batch of sewing classes as well as those that had passed out earlier. In no time, a team of more than 250 Corona Warriors was assembled to embark on the Mission Mask they can utilize their skills learning through ITI and KVK back to use for the nation’s good during the pandemic situation. Some of them also join voluntarily to help ITIs to accomplish the goal of providing the maximum number of the mask. Initially, ITI at Jhalod Road in Dahod had approached the district administration with the proposal to make masks. The ITIs reached out to students of the current batch of sewing classes as well as those that had passed out earlier.

“The district administrations provided cloth to the ITIs and KVKs for making the masks. More masks have already been made and supplied, and the remaining will be ready in a few days,” said Mittra, adding that he has instructed all state’s ITIs to follow the ITI Dahod example and to start making masks under campaign “Mission Mask”.
