Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research selected for rural development initiative

Jipmer has been selected under ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ a flagship programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), to connect the higher educational institutions to the villages around, Jipmer Director Dr. R.P. Swaminathan said.

Jipmer and MHRD had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the UBA mission to involve professional and higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth in these communities.

According to UBA Coordinator Dr. Ravi Kumar Chittoria, Registrar (Academic) and Head of IT Wing, Jipmer, the mission also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.

Dr. Sonali Sarkar (HOD) and Dr. Palanivel from the Department of Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM) in Jipmer have been assigned to initiate the process of implementation of UBA project in Jipmer. Various clusters of villages have been selected by Department of PSM.
