Lotus Petal Foundation Launches Its ESG Report, Reinforcing Commitment to Education, Equity and Sustainability

Lotus Petal Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation committed to transforming the lives of underserved children through education and holistic development, today announced the launch of its first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report. The report marks a significant milestone in the organisation’s journey towards structured accountability, transparency, and long term sustainability.

The ESG Report was officially unveiled at the Lotus Petal Foundation campus during a curated gathering of corporate leaders, sustainability experts, educationists, and development sector stakeholders along with the students of Lotus Petal Senior Secondary Schools, the torchbearers of tomorrow. The launch reaffirmed the Foundation’s belief that long-term social impact must be anchored in accountability, measurable outcomes, and responsible governance.

The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a student's performance and the Founder’s Address, setting the tone for a morning focused on purpose-driven action. An ESG film showcased Lotus Petal’s work across education, nutrition, healthcare, and skill development, highlighting how sustainability principles are embedded across its programs, infrastructure and operations.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Sanjiv Sachar, former Senior Partner at Egon Zehnder and a respected leader in corporate governance and leadership advisory, formally released the ESG Report and addressed the gathering, emphasising the growing importance of credible ESG frameworks in the social sector.

Reflecting on his visit to the Lotus Petal Foundation, Mr. Sachar commended the organization’s deep-rooted value system. "When a student chooses to care for the planet, it ignites a profound shift," he stated. "The most significant sustainable investment we can make is in the values we instill in our children—a quality that shines through every student here." He further inspired the audience by sharing his late father’s '4H Principle': Honesty, Humility, Hardwork, and Humour, noting that with these four pillars, "nothing is impossible."

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kushal Raj Chakravorty, Founder & Managing Trustee, Lotus Petal Foundation, said, “For Lotus Petal Foundation, ESG is not a compliance exercise, it is a reflection of our values. This report represents our commitment to building systems that are ethical, transparent, and impact-driven, ensuring that every partnership and every rupee invested translates into meaningful change for children and communities.”

The newly launched ESG Report shows how the Lotus Petal campus has become a model of resource stewardship. By using rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment, the Foundation cut freshwater dependence by 70% and is moving toward a zero-discharge model. Today, 86% of total electricity comes from renewable energy, helping avoid over 68 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The Foundation maintains a 60% female workforce and has invested over 5,100 hours in employee learning. Through ethical governance and inclusive growth, the Foundation ensures every rupee invested translates into transparent, measurable change.

The launch was followed by a panel discussion on “Scaling Impact Together: How Corporate-NGO Partnerships Can Strengthen India’s Sustainability Agenda” featuring voices from the corporate and development sectors. The discussion highlighted the role of collaborative ESG-aligned partnerships in achieving India’s broader social and sustainability goals.

The event concluded with closing remarks and a guided campus tour, offering guests a first-hand view of how ESG principles are implemented on ground at Lotus Petal Foundation. With this ESG Report, Lotus Petal Foundation aims to set a benchmark for transparency and accountability in the education-led social impact space, while inviting corporates and stakeholders to co-create sustainable, long-term change.
