New Delhi, 9th February, 2016: PVR Nest, the CSR arm of PVR Ltd, India’s leading Multiplex Company along with Michelin India today organized an interactive Film Making Power Session at the heart of capital. Led by PVR Nest and supported by Michelin India, Cineart Steer to Safety Program is an initiative with an experiential and innovative cinema based medium to sensitize school children to promote road safety. The programme, in its third edition targets 200 schools reaching out to 200,000 children in Delhi/ NCR.
Dr Shravan Kumar- Chief Executive Officer: Children’s Film Society, India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr Kumar said, “We, at the Children Film Society of India promote indigenous and exclusive cinema for children that would stimulate their creativity, compassion and critical thinking. We would like to collaborate with the campaign and send the three best student films to the Children’s film festival. Going forward we will support the campaign in whatever way we can and help in further screening of the films.”
The objective of this session is to announce the Young Film Makers of 2016. These budding film makers have been nominated through a selection process held during the last year’s “Steer to Safety” program. Now, they will make their original content for millions of people across country. PVR Nest aims to provide a platform where hundreds of children from diverse backgrounds will come together and have access to unique viewpoints on films, media – campaigns and technology with the eminent experts.
The event also witnessed Mr M K Raina: Eminent film maker, theatre personality and actor, Ms Sonali Khan: Country Director- Breakthrough and Khurafaati Nitin: RJ- Fever 104 FM as the guest speakers for the Power packed session.
Mr. M K Raina, Eminent Theatre Personality and Actor, while speaking at the event said, “Culture, as a core is missing in our Indian education system. The craft of film making needs to transcend into art. We need to start Children’s film clubs in every school; where in new ideas are discussed. There are millions ways to tell a story: what you want to say and how you want to say? Children have stories to share and they love to tell stories. When they are equipped with cinematic tools; we are opening a whole new world of possibilities to them.”
Adding to Mr Raina, Ms Sonali Khan, Country Director- Breakthrough TV, raised an important question on women’s safety. “Are our roads safe for women and girls? Young people need to define what road safety is for them. We need to bust the myth that women are not good drivers. Road safety need to include security issues for women drivers. Campaigns like this need to have an action point, wherein everybody feels that I can do something, and then only they will join. Films created by children bring fresh perspectives on road safety issues as seen by them. They play a more proactive and positive role as part of the solution rather than the problem.”
Khurafaati Nitin, RJ- Fever 104 FM also added, “Children are increasingly becoming the decision makers. Deep down, parents know that. Children will become the road safety ambassador and guide their parents. They need to start from their home.”
Ms Deepa Menon, Senior Vice President- CSR, PVR Ltd shared the vision of the program and reinforced the key elements of the campaign, “The Cineart “Steer to Safety” Campaign takes two things very seriously: Children and Cinema. The strength of this multi-platform campaign is the ‘children’ and the ‘road safety content and skills orientation’, which we give them before they make these films. We believe that their films can sway hearts and minds and urge us as a society to become responsible road users. Their works of art have the potential to bring pressure on governments through their unpolluted ideas and the persuasion to initiate attitudinal and behavioral change.”
The event also witnessed the presence of 200 children, Principals & teachers from 20 schools, program partners, selective sectoral heads from High Commissions, corporates and other organizations. Ms Niharika Bijli, PVR Limited and from Michelin India, Ms Arati Mukerji: Director- Communications & Brand Image, AIM Zone also attended the event to encourage the students.
An interactive screen play was presented by ROSES – Road safety and emergency services that communicated a strong message on “Responsible road behavior”.
