Rotary launches program for Skill Development of 30000 women across India

Rotary India Literacy Mission launched a Skill Development programme for widows, single mothers and their unmarried daughters. The programme was launched in Kolkata by the Rotary International President for the year 2019-20 Mr. Mark Daniel Maloney from the USA, said the chairman of Rotary India Literacy Mission Chairman Mr. Shekhar Mehta. The value of the project is Rs. 36 crores and the project will be completed in next 4 years, added Mr. Shekhar Mehta. The event was hosted at GD Birla Sabhagar by Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar, which has also started skill development of 1100 widows in the state of West Bengal at a project value of Rs. 1.32 crores, said the President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar, Ms Chitra Agarwal.

The women will be skilled in trades like geriatric care, child care, beautician, tailoring, customer relations for hotels, restaurants, malls etc. Rotary Mahanagar will also help these women get jobs or start vocations. The training will be done at different skilling centres across the State. The program partners for implementation contracted by Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar are India’s leading organization in the field, Labornet and Emporium.

On the same day Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar also launched the project for E-learning in 150 schools impacting nearly 40000 children. Also launched was program for teachers training of 300 teachers. The value of these 2 projects is Rs. 70 lakhs, informed the event chair Mr. Pranay Agarwal. Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar will also convert 10 government schools into Happy Schools with facilities like safe drinking water, adequate toilets for boys and girls, safe and painted building, a library etc at a value of Rs. 60 lakhs.
