Woman to drive for 'Clean India' and 'Make in India'

A 51-year-old woman has embarked upon on a record-making solo drive in a four-wheeler across the country to create awareness and promote 'Clean India' and 'Make in India' initiatives.

Sangeetha Sridhar, a native of Coimbatore and living in United Arab Emirates, would start the journey on August 12 from Gateway of India in Mumbai, cover 310 cities in 29 States and five Union Territories in over five months.

The trip would coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 100th anniversary of Sheikh Zayed, founding father of the UAE.

The 'Clean India Trail' has been endorsed by Union Minister of Tourism K J Alphonse, Sangeetha told reporters here today.

The journey officially represents 'Incredible India' brand and would go on till January next, she said adding that this was a commemorative drive to conduct an experiential audit of sanitation facilities along the National and State Highways, she said.

She would cover 300 kms per day and halt at night, either in a hotel or a house as be a guest of like-minded people.
