About the Organization

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is a global non-profit organisation committed to progressing Planetary Health for present and future generations. Founded by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2006, the Foundation exists to promote a new relationship with nature and the innovations that can impact this change. The Foundation aims to bring humanity together to empower impactful solutions for our planet's biodiversity, climate, ocean and water resources. It works in three main geographical areas: the Mediterranean Basin, the Polar Regions and the Least developed countries.

About the Grant

The 2024 session of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation's call for project proposals will be online from 1st to 30th June 2024.

Shortlisted projects will be considered for funding from 2026 onwards.

2 possible options:

Call for projects – The Polar Initiative

The initiative is initially built as a 4-year programmatic effort 2022-2025 and targets areas of traditional interest to the Foundation and in line with its potential for influence and convening: science, policy, capacity building and conservation action. It proposes 4 axes of work, namely:

• Science-based evidence and knowledge: With legitimate co-conveners, PA2F will organize a symposium in year 1 and 3, convening leading scientists. The first one was held on 24-25 February 2022 questioning how the changes in the two poles influence global systems.
• Campaigns to weigh in on particular impactful policy changes and management actions
• Capacity building through fellowships via SCAR and IASC
• Delivery of conservation actions through PA2F regular calls for projects.

Active coordination and synergies will be sought across the 4 axes, privileging principles of partnerships, recognizing interconnected challenges and the need for multidisciplinary approaches, valuing contributions of indigenous and local communities, seeking networking across the projects and activities, and leveraging co-financing. Linkages with other PA2F initiatives will be sought.

Call for projects – Other topics

The project must relate to climate change, biodiversity or water and be located in one of the priority geographic areas: Mediterranean, polar zones, Least Developed Countries according to the UN classification.

The project selection process is based on the following steps:

• Phase 1: Online Application
• Phase 2: In-depth application form for shortlisted projects
• Phase 3: Applications are examined by the Scientific and Technical Committee
• Phase 4: Decision of the Board of Directors
