Applications Invited for Fondation Segré Conservation Action Fund
Organization: IUCN
Apply By: 04 Apr 2024
Grant Amount: 7000 Euro
About the Organization
IUCN Save Our Species supports science-based conservation action on the ground that saves animals, plants and fungi from extinction. We focus our efforts where they will have the biggest impact by funding frontline conservation organisations across the world who have unique knowledge of their region and the local biodiversity.
About the Grant
Ungulates are known as “nature’s architects”. They contribute significantly to maintaining the health and resilience of our ecosystems. By eating vegetation, they support seed dispersal and germination, ultimately supporting the distribution and abundance of animal species.
Additionally, ungulates are critical prey species that support the survival of carnivore and scavenger wildlife species in any ecosystem.
Humans and wildlife alike depend on them for survival and yet, poaching, habitat loss and diseases threaten the survival of many of these species.
To address the pressing need for global conservation efforts, this year’s calls for proposals specifically focus on the conservation of globally threatened ungulate species as recognised by the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. The calls aim to safeguard their habitats, address the threats they face, and promote the well-being of both the species themselves and the communities who share the same ecosystems.
Maximum duration for Conservation Action Grants and Research Support Grants is 12 months.
The Fund will make available two different types of grants:
– Conservation Action Grants (maximum grant size: EUR 50,000):
The objective of these grants is to enable and support civil society organisations engaged in the conservation of globally threatened ungulate species to carry out sustainable conservation measures at local level to protect the species, their habitats and to improve the livelihoods of the people who depend on them.
– Research Support Grants (maximum grant size: EUR 7,000):
The objective of these grants is to support young and early career scientists in their research to improve knowledge globally threatened ungulate species and their role in natural ecosystems. These grants intend to provide early researchers (enrolled in a curriculum) the opportunity to mature into seasoned conservationists, while benefitting the conservation and management of threatened animal species.
