Background and purpose of the Toolkit

Patang, a nonprofit organization established in 2003, aimed to create a space for young people in Western Odisha. Over time, it has established a Youth and Education Resource Center (YERC) with various programs fostering youth leadership in the eastern region of India.

 

Through community youth volunteering programme, Patang is working on child rights focusing on development and participation since last two decades. Patang’s Child collective is one of the enriching initiatives for enhancing child participation in rural areas through youth engagement.

 

Patang is seeking proposals from qualified individuals or organizations to develop a comprehensive child collective manual aimed at empowering youth facilitators in rural areas to initiate and sustain child-led initiatives. This project is part of our commitment to fostering youth engagement and child development.

 

The objective of this initiative is to create a user-friendly manual that equips youth facilitators with the knowledge and tools necessary to establish and manage child collectives effectively. The manual should be accessible, engaging, and applicable to rural contexts, providing practical guidance on initiating and sustaining children's rights focused on education, health, and resilience.

 

Objective of the assignment:

  • Develop a comprehensive and user-friendly manual on child participation focusing on education, health and resilience
  • Conduct training for the Patang team to build their perspective of the manual and how to use it effectively.

 

Target group of the manual:

  • Children ages 6 to 12 years old.
  • Youth volunteers working with children.

 

Major task and coordination:

  • Develop a structured framework to design the sessions, ensuring alignment with the objectives and target audience.
  • Design sessions on child rights and participation. These sessions should incorporate diverse methodologies including games, songs, films (in Hindi or Odia language), role-plays, energizers, and more.
  • Each session must include a content paragraph and guidelines on how to conduct the session for facilitators.
  • Based on the manual, conduct a two-day comprehensive training/workshop with the Patang team members to familiarize them with the manual.

 

Topic Coverage for the Manual:

The manual should include approximately 64 sessions covering the following topics:

  1. Skills Development: Sessions on dance, music, movement, art, craft, and other creative activities.
  2. Co-curricular Activities: Focusing on practical life skills, social-emotional learning, and personal development beyond traditional academic subjects.
  3. Observance of Important Days: Guidance on celebrating and learning about significant cultural, national, or international observances.
  4. Local Institution Exposure and Role Model Interaction: Activities to facilitate visits to local institutions, engagement with community role models, and exposure to diverse professions.
  5. Sports, Games, and Cultural Activities: Sessions covering indoor and outdoor sports, film festivals, library activities, and cultural events to promote physical activity, creativity, and community engagement.
  6. Safe space audit: Social action projects by children to undertake safety audit in school and community

 

Duration:

Session design framework to be finalized : 1st week of May 2024

Developing content page and objectives : 1st week of May 2024

Design sessions : 3rd week of May 2024

Finalize the manual : 10th June  2024

Conduct offline two-day orientation with Patang team members : Mid / End of June 2024

 

What Patang offers:

  • INR 70,000 (Seventy thousand only) inclusive of all taxes, for the entire roles and responsibilities mentioned above.

 

Consultant qualification: Patang is looking for a consultant with a strong record in designing and facilitating training and workshops on child rights. The successful application will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in child rights, child participation, and session designing.
  • Experience in designing and conducting training workshops and capacity-building activities for diverse groups of participants.
  • Prior experience of working with children.

 

Expression of interest: Through this expression of interest Patang invites qualified consultant to submit proposals that:

a)      A cover letter expressing interest and outlining proposed framework to develop Child Collective Toolkit.

b)     CV demonstrating relevant skills and experience.

c)      A note on past relevant work experience

d)     Names of at least 1 reference, preferably from organizations with whom the consultant has worked in similar types of assignment.
