About the Organization

S M Sehgal Foundation is a rural, grassroots implementing NGO that operates across 13 states of India, reaching over 5.9 million people and counting. The organization’s mission is to achieve positive social, economic, and environmental change across rural India. It works to address critical issues concerning food security, water security, and good governance, with a focus on the empowerment of women and children. The foundation brings together a dedicated team of experts who create sustainable programs and work directly alongside rural communities to better manage their water resources, increase their agricultural productivity, strengthen and articulate their vision for village development, and transform the lives of youth and schoolchildren. S M Sehgal Foundation has five main program areas: Agricultural Development, Water Management, Local Participation and Sustainability, Transform Lives one school at a time, and Outreach for Development.

About the Proposal

SMSF has recently initiated Project “Abhivriddhi” in villages of Alwar district, Rajasthan. The main focus of the project is centered around SDG6, SDG6.4, and SDG6.5. All these sustainable development goals emphasize on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, water use and integrated water resources. The main objectives of the project are as follows:

  • Increase in water availability through development of ponds, check dams, drainage line treatment for surface water storage and groundwater recharge
  • Provide knowledge about best management practices to improve agriculture and allied activities
  • Build of farmers and improve dissemination of information
  • Increase income of farmers through women’s group by developing income generation business models.
  • Build capacity of community members to maintain the structures created

The foundation is seeking to hire an agency to conduct baseline survey in select villages of Alwar district of Rajasthan.

Deliverables

  • Deploy tools for collection of data.
  • Attend brainstorming and review meetings to discuss methodology and sampling design with team members of SMSF.
  • Create a finding report in PPT format along with an executive summary highlighting key findings.
  • Submit data transcripts along with the findings PPT and summary.

Objective of study

The baseline study will establish a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic conditions, existing agricultural practices, availability of water, and the capacities at the community level within the selected villages of Alwar district, Rajasthan. The findings of the study will provide benchmark data against which progress and impacts through Project Abhivriddhi can be measured. It will also assess the existing gaps, needs, and opportunities relating to the management of water resources, agricultural development, improvement in livelihoods in the community towards sustaining project interventions. Its findings will form the basis of evidence-based planning, maintain conformity with project objectives, and help decide upon the monitoring and evaluation framework.
