Job Description
The Research Associate will work under the direct supervision of the GCF Focal Point, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as well as the Head – Action for Climate and Environment Unit to undertake the following tasks.
The Research Associate will assist in research, stakeholder coordination, and knowledge management to support the NAP process. Key responsibilities include:
Policy Analysis and Technical Research
- Conduct analysis on sectoral adaptation needs and support drafting of sector-specific adaptation strategies.
- Provide technical inputs on adaptation financing instruments and resource mobilization approaches.
- Support preparation of the Implementation Roadmap for NAP including revised ToRs for Thematic Working Groups (TWGs).
- Contribute to the development of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework for adaptation.
Platform Development and Stakeholder Coordination
- Support operationalization of a national platform for identification and prioritization of adaptation projects.
- Facilitate dialogues with line ministries, think tanks, and financing institutions for project pipeline development.
- Support institutionalization of a national forum for vulnerability and climate finance modelling.
- Travel to stakeholder consultations across India and consultation records and minutes (up to 5 travels of days each)
Knowledge Management and Reporting
- Draft technical papers, policy briefs, and background notes for MoEFCC and UNFCCC submissions.
- Compile case studies and develop knowledge products related to adaptation planning and finance.
- Prepare presentations, talking points and reports for workshops, national steering committee (NSC) meetings, and international forums.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Min. years of relevant work experience
- 4 years of experience in environment and climate adaptation or climate finance
- Prior experience of working with government departments is required
Required skills and competencies
Knowledge and Technical Expertise:
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Basic understanding of climate adaptation concepts.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired skills Documentation skills:
- Excellent documentation skills, including technical and analytical writing.
Teamwork:
- Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues (and reports where appropriate);

Required Language(s)
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is essential.
