Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading the planning, development and implementation of existing and potential COPs initiated by Dasra in its priority sectors (currently adolescents, sanitation and democracy & governance). This position will lead and direct the efforts of the COP team and coordinate at the strategic and operational levels with the other relevant functions of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

Leading the Community of Practice

1. Drive strategic direction:

a. Create comprehensive strategies and models for COPs as they relate to the unique needs of the priority sectors that Dasra is focusing on.

b. Develop and define goals and success metrics to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of the COPs

2. Cultivate and build relationships:

a. with potential and existing partners to ensure relevant participation from key external stakeholders (could include non-profits, intermediaries, donors, government agencies)

b. with experts in the field who could contribute to the COP in terms of sector or functional expertise

3. Build and grow communication platforms:

a. Build platforms, both offline and online, necessary to cultivate the COPs and create a conducive environment for participants to learn, share and collaborate.

b. Be the key facilitator responsible for creating relevant structures and groups, connecting participants, and ensuring participant engagement.

4. Remain informed of developments in Dasra priority sectors and COP best practices so as to keep COP relevant and aligned to the external environment.

Project Management

1. Responsible for the achievement of COP mission and goals. Build evaluation systems related to these goals and objectives, report progress to the KCD Director and relevant Heads of Business Units – Field Building and Strategic Philanthropy

2. Develop quarterly/ annual plans and budgets for COPs, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.

3. Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the COP vertical within KCD.

Leading a COP Team

1. Mentor and lead a team of dedicated personnel to execute on strategy and operational plans

2. Recruit, train, support, develop, and guide the team

3. Ensure effective management within the team, with provision for succession and quality control

4. Design, support and oversee cross-functional teams, as required, throughout the organization

Primary Relationships

  • The position sits within the Knowledge Creation and Dissemination (KCD) team. This position will report to the KCD Director.
  • Within the team, the person in this position has to effectively work with the leads of other verticals – Research & Thought Leadership, Diligence, Production & Creatives, Branding & Marketing to ensure high quality deliverables and dissemination.
  • Within the organization, the position has primary working relationships with the Heads of Strategic Philanthropy, the Adolescents Collaborative, Sanitation, Governance teams and with other HODs as and when required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 15-20 years of experience in applied social research and development (preferably in current Dasra priority sectors), curating and managing partnerships and networks in the development sector, knowledge management and capacity building of organizations.
  • Experience in managing a cross functional team and managing relationships with senior management, key clients as well as with a wider horizontal team - a relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence".
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in building strategy, stakeholder management, research, campaign management, and the design and creation of platforms for collaboration and collective engagement.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the policy and advocacy landscape in India.
  • Experience managing complex, long-term projects, with a wide range of stakeholders, while managing budgets and adhering to deadlines.
  • Have high energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position discussions about and within the Communities of Practice at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Have a strong commitment and ability to develop a team and nurture talent to deliver excellent results.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with different groups, including senior management, donors, non-profit partners, technical partners and various teams within the organization.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with a willingness to build systems and processes, able to work independently, as well as the ability to think and act creatively in a resource constrained environment.
  • Have the flexibility to be able to work in fast-moving and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and motivational skills
