Job Description
We are looking for an experienced leader to join the Raspberry Pi Foundation's learning team to lead our work on research, research into practice, and impact evaluation.
Reporting to the Chief Learning Officer, you will be responsible for developing the Foundation's research and impact evaluation strategies. Your driving purpose will be to generate knowledge that we can use to ensure that we are having the greatest impact possible through our programs and products, and to make that knowledge openly available so that it elevates the whole field of computer science education.
You will work closely with the Director of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge to define and execute on a shared research agenda, supporting independent academic research and ensuring that the knowledge generated is translated into practice. You do not need to be an academic and there is no expectation that you will undertake academic research personally in this role, but you will ideally have experience working with academics and a good understanding of academic research.
You will lead our approach to impact evaluation, ensuring that we really understand the difference we are making through our products and programs, and that we are identifying and applying lessons.
This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the whole field of computer science education at a time when the advent of AI technologies is raising significant questions and opening up new opportunities.
You will lead a highly skilled team and collaborate closely with colleagues from different disciplines, including digital products and professional development. You will also have have a significant externally facing role, building partnerships and representing the Foundation in international networks and communities of practice.
We are a global organisation and we welcome applications from candidates who are based in the countries in which we can currently employ people (Ireland, India, the UK and US). Candidates need to be available to overlap with core UK office hours (09.00 - 17.00) for at least four hours in their working day, irrespective of the time zone in which they reside. Candidates will also need to be available for regular travel to Cambridge, UK (no more than once per quarter).

Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the Foundation's strategies for research and impact evaluation; building knowledge about the most effective approaches to the teaching and learning of computer science and related subjects.
- Work with the Chief Learning Officer and Director of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge to set a shared agenda for academic research, including commissioning original research and developing research partnerships.
- Lead the Foundation's approach to evaluating impact, ensuring that systems are in place to measure the impact of the Foundation's programs and products across both formal and informal settings, identifying lessons and opportunities for improvement.
- Translate the knowledge generated from research and impact evaluation into practice across the Foundation's activities and more broadly in the field of computer science education, including through a wide range of dissemination, communication, and engagement activities (blogs, publications, events, training, networks, etc).
- Guide developmental work in emerging areas such as AI literacy, data science, and the future of pedagogy and assessment. Work with product teams to ensure that they have access to the world's leading research to inform their work.
- Represent the Foundation externally at conferences and in policy and practitioner communities. Ensure that the Foundation is connected to and learning from the wider field.
- Lead and support a high-performing, cross-functional team, fostering a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- As a member of the Leadership team, contribute to the strategic direction, culture, and values of the organisation.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
We recognise that everyone has potential for growth, and we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate some, though not necessarily all, of the experience and attributes below.
- Significant experience leading research and / or impact evaluation in K12 education, ideally with a focus on computer science or STEM.
- A relevant post graduate qualification.
- A clear commitment to ethical research practice when working with schools and young people.
- A proven track record of translating research into practice.
- Confident working with stakeholders from different backgrounds, including academic researchers, learning experience designers, digital product teams, policy makers, and practitioners.
- An outstanding communicator able to communicate complex ideas effectively to different audiences and in different cultural contexts. Equally comfortable writing for formal publications and blogs, and an engaging public speaker.
- Experience leading and managing teams, including cross-functional or cross-cultural projects in education or the nonprofit sector.
- A collaborative, open, and supportive leadership style, with a focus on mentoring colleagues at all levels and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Experience building and managing effective partnerships with academic institutions or research organisations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively across teams and geographies.
- A deep understanding of broad range of research and evaluation methodologies in the context of education.
