The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is the department of the Australian federal government responsible for foreign policy and relations, international aid, consular services and trade and investment.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Provide a full suite of event management services for the Australian High Commission, focusing on events for the High Commissioner at the Residence (but also including events at the High Commission offices involving the High Commissioner and occasionally other senior staff) including:

• Concepts for each separate event - notably location, set-up, lighting, music, AV, table styling, and food and wine.
• Selection and management of other service providers for events (catering companies, lighting companies, AV, staff provision).
• Support for the High Commissioner’s chef in preparing menus, including wine pairings.
• Selection of wine for the Residence cellar.
• Design of invitations and other collateral.
• Preparation of menu cards.
• Oversight of set-up for each event.
• Assistance in choice and purchasing of new equipment associated with events.
• Management of household staff in relation to set-up, placement, choice of napery, glassware and cutlery.
• Assistance in the hiring of new staff at the Residence as required.
• Smooth management of the event on the day, including greeting and other support for guests, gap-filling and quality control.
• Training and mentoring chef, wait staff and others to deliver a higher quality of events over time.
• Management of Representation budget and periodic acquittal thereof.
