Job Description

In this context, UNDP wishes to hire a Consultant -Disaster Management to be stationed at the BMC, Mumbai to provide the necessary support in the project implementation at the city level. The individual will provide technical support in integrating HRVA into the command control system of the Bombay Municipal Corporation. Additionally, the individual will also support the State project officer in implementing the ‘Disaster Risk Management’ program with the state of Maharashtra.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary and secondary research for any additional data required for Multi Hazard Risk and vulnerability Assessment (MHRVA) for the city of Mumbai.
  • Assimilate the data through effective interaction and coordination with the concerned internal departments of the BMC, State Government and Central Government as and when required.
  • Ensure the seamless live integration of the developed data at the city level. It will be the responsibility of the Technical Associate to ensure coordination with all the agencies in/ affiliated with the Mumbai Corporation to serve as the link between the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the agencies carrying out the exercise.
  • Ensure that the deliverables of the HRVA and the CCS as per the agreement with the onboarded agencies are being delivered in time and are of the quality as expected by the BMC and the UNDP.
  • Provide inputs on the Inception and interim reports submitted by the agencies for the tasks and prepare reports on the progress made by them in line with the deliverables set out in the agreements.
  • Provide inputs on and ensure that the hazard scenarios being built into the command and control system are in line with the needs of the BMC and prepare reports on the same.
  • Ensure timely creation and testing of the Beta version of the CCA and ensure seamless integration with the existing system of the BMC.
  • Work with the third party agency to ensure the smooth handover of the final version of the CCA to the BMC along with ensuring that the trainings, tabletop and mock-drills for the same are conducted in line with the requirements of the BMC and the agreement.
  • Coordinate with third party agencies to make sure that the deliverables are aligned with the project outputs.
  • Prepare timely reports for each phase of the project in line with the project agreement confirming the timely completion of the activity as per the requirements of the client.
  • Serve as the focal point for information sharing and coordination between the BMC, appointed agencies and the UNDP.
  • Support in any other programme activities as suggested by the Supervisor

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Secondary education is required. -A university degree (Bachelor´s degree) in disaster management, environmental sciences or related field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement. Work

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years (with Bachelor´s degree) of experience in the arena of Disaster Management/ Disaster Risk Reduction.
  • Experience in working with the State/ Central Governments and know about their functioning is desirable.
  • Work experience of having worked in the arena of urban DRR will be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is desirable

Languages:

  • Proficiency in Hindi and English, along with working knowledge of the local/native language, would be an added advantage.
