The position:    

The Aga Khan Foundation, India (‘AKF (India)’) has maintained a long presence in the Bahraich and Shrawasti districts of Uttar Pradesh commencing in 2010 with an Area Development programme to improve the overall quality of life of marginalized communities through a multi sector implementation strategy with interventions on education, livelihood improvement, the empowerment of adolescent girls’, drinking water and sanitation, women’s empowerment, and support to migrants. As part of its expanding programme portfolio in Bahraich, AKF (India) is implementing a comprehensive education programme, Improving the Quality of Education, supported by the Tata Trusts.

Overall Responsibilities

The Programme Manager - School Learning and Improvement Programme will lead all the management work of the SLIP programme including team management, reporting, monitoring, planning and review etc. The position is required to closely work with all key project staff and coordinate with other Tata Trusts supported implementing partners based in Bahraich

‚ÄčKey Responsibilities

  • Together with the field team, develop implementation plan, assign clear and measurable job responsibilities, and mobilise/extend necessary support as required.
  • Organize capacity building meetings and trainings of SLIP staff/ Government & Madarsa Teachers with Academic Coordinator- SLIP. See the overall logistics of the trainings.
  • Participate in internal monthly review meetings at various levels (cluster, block, and state office) to ensure that the project is on track and devise course corrections where necessary.
  • Ensure regular exchange of knowledge, good practices, and lessons learned among project team members, government counterparts and other implementing partners. Keep track of new developments and best practices in the education sector and facilitate adoption by the Programme.
  • Engage with the public systems at the village, panchayat and block levels to improve the delivery and effectiveness SLIP programme.
  • Be responsible for administration, human resources and financial management as per project and organization’s requirement.
  • Maintain and update MIS related data of the project. Ensure timely submission of progress and MIS report as per project and organizational requirements. Support M & E Coordinator in development of monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly planning and review meetings of SLIP team.
  • Liaise with education, social welfare and other key government departments at district/block level for project implementation.
  • Undertake frequent field visits to monitor project progress. Provide necessary feedback to field staff to improve performance and quality.
  • Ensure project compliance with AKF and donor committed policies.
  • Need analysis of the TLM’s and other logistics required and develop request demand and lead the procurement process in support of Finance and Admin Assistant.
  • Create and maintain effective mechanism to address operational issues in a frequent manner.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduate/Post Graduate in any discipline with the passion to work for marginalized communities.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in the field of education and managing a programme.
  • Experience of working with public education systems. Knowledge of national and state level government policies and Programme related to education
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and communication (both verbal and written) in Hindi and English is essential.
  • Self-driven and highly motivated, with a commitment to improving the quality of life of marginalized communities, and willingness to work within a team.
