Job Description


Reports to:     Manager – Research 

Location:        Ahmedabad, although the job will involve travel to project sites of Sense International India.

Salary:            Salary offered will be negotiable based on relevant experience and qualifications of the candidate. 

Nature:           This post is contractual in nature, i.e. a renewable contract of 2 years (inclusive of 6 months probationary period).  

Hours:            44 hours per week (Including Lunch Break)

Post Description

In line with strategic plans and policy guidelines of Sense International India, the person will work under the Manager – Research to undertake research projects on issues associated with deafblindness and multi-sensory impairment (MSI).

The position requires supporting the organisation to fulfil its strategic objectives through research work on the issues associated with deafblindness and multi-sensory impairment. The person will be undertaking various research projects as per the requirements to help Sense India and professionals in the field to understand the needs, challenges and progress around persons with deafblindness and multi-sensory impairment.


Specific responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of research projects including which shall undertake research duties associated with one or more research projects, which may include, for example:
  • Identify the need areas for various research subjects
  • Drafting literature reviews and analysis
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating key stakeholder/expert interviews
  • Planning and collating data
  • Drafting reports
  • Presenting the outcomes publishing research articles, conferences and seminars
  • Contribute to strategies, approaches and project designs to improve the quality of services for persons with deafblindness and MSI
  • Work with Manager – Research, Manager-Training, Head – Programme and other team members to develop concept note and write research proposals.
  •  Ensuring project resources are applied efficiently and effectively to achieve project objectives within established timeframes and project plans
  • Effectively minimize exposure risk by adhering to risk plans associated with designated tasks.
  • Identification and maintenance of key relationships with stakeholders demonstrating the ability to liaise and communicate with a diverse range of people, including senior officers, government departments, organizational staff and other stakeholders.
  • Work and coordinate with team members to implement research projects and findings to validate research outcomes.
  • Support in overall administration and smooth functioning of office
  • Any other work as agreed with line manager


Experience and Qualifications

a)      Technical knowledge/experience:

  • Graduate (with two years of experience) /Post Graduate in Social Sciences or in relevant subjects.
  • Demonstrated skills in literature review, stakeholder/key expert interviews and other data gathering methods – including demonstrated high-level skills in drafting reports
  • Should have proven record of undertaking Research Projects in the area of education, disability, health issues etc.
  • Willing to travel 10-15 days and conduct the research work
  • Should be comfortable using SPSS or any other research management software. 
  • Operate a computer and MS Office programs
  • Takes initiative and offers new ideas


b)      Desirable Requirements 

  • Good interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels
  • Written and spoken communication skills in Hindi and English, knowledge of regional language will be added advantage
  • Problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Able to facilitate groups
  • Good personal presentation
  • Personal commitment to improving one's own knowledge and skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and competing interests.
  • Time management skills to deliver quality projects efficiently
  • Monitoring and multi-tasking skills
