Wheels Global Foundation (WGF), a non-profit entity, was created by the global alumni community representing all the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) in 2006 inspired by a challenge from the visiting late President Abdul Kalam to "Solve the big problems in the world." It was incorporated in 2013 as a 501C(3) entity in the USA, and as a Sec. 12 entity in Pune, India in 2017. Its six areas of focus are Water, Health, Education, Energy, Livelihoods, and Sustainability. From its humble beginnings of a handful of projects mostly across India and a few passionate individuals, it has expanded to an ecosystem inclusive of professionals from medicine, public service & policy, law and others, and an institution with community of change-makers and thought-leaders working through the structure of Councils, Committees, and Chapters across India & USA, and strong partnerships with PanIIT-USA, PanIIT-India and other entities.  

It is striving to achieve its simple mission of “Technology-driven Impact Solutions at Scale to Transform 20% of Rurban India by 2030” by partnering with curated on-the-ground social impact entities / NGOs and helping them get to a much bigger impact scale by leveraging full power of IIT & extended ecosystem (technology & innovations, expertise, corporate resources, funds) and initiating new development projects through the same ecosystem as needed.

WGF is looking for an experienced Program Manager, based in Aravalli, Gujarat, India, who will drive the Integrated Smart Village Development Project.  

Below is a simple summary of key responsibilities:

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing effective impact programs aligning with WGF’s mission and vision
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with all the stakeholders (NGO partners, Govt bodies, Institutions, communities, CSR entities, donors, influencers, donors).
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the programs that are implemented.
  • Supporting the fundraising and advocacy efforts of WGF by developing and delivering compelling and persuasive messages and stories.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with vertical councils and chapters of WGF.
  • Researching and analyzing the latest trends, best practices, and innovations in the field of communication and marketing, and applying them to WGF’s context and needs.
  • Activate/reactivate the various Gram Panchayats' committees (Water, Health, Education, Natural resources, Nutrition, Matru-mandal, Self-help groups etc) and support them to
  • To provide handholding support to the GPs under the allotted Cluster in planning and execution of IEC Plans to enhance participation of people in preparation, implementation and monitoring.
  • To provide handholding support to the GPs under the Cluster in organizing effective Gram Sabhas, collection of Primary and Secondary data including GIS-based data, situation analysis and preparation of Development Status Report by each of the GPs under the Cluster.
  • To prepare and submit progress report to the Program Coordinator and all others concerned as per requirement of the program.
  • To discharge such other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by authorities for successful implementation of the Project on mission mode.
  • To coordinate with block/district administration and local line department offices pertaining to the Clusters of GPs and obtain their support in effective implementation of the planned activities

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Post Graduate/Graduate in Economics, Rural Development, Rural Management, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies and similar disciplines (the term on PG degree may be relaxed in case of at least two years of experience in similar field) from any recognized university.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in project Management, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluating development projects, preferably in the Social Impact sector or a similar environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Hindi, and preferably in other regional languages as well (Gujarati).
  • Soft skills including proficiency in MS Office (especially Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and capacity for online reporting.
  • Appropriate attitude to mix, develop rapport and work with Elected Representatives (ER) and functionaries of Gram Panchayats (GP) and rural communities in remote rural areas and strong commitment to work on mission mode for rural development.
  • Uncompromising consent and keenness to stay and remain immersed in remote rural areas and to undertake extensive travel within the allotted Cluster of GPs by own means.
  • Capacity to work for prolonged hours.
  • Prior experience in the given field of work will be given preference.
  • Relaxation in academic standards and other eligibilities may be considered in very exceptional cases as per discretion of authority.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges related to water, health, education, energy, livelihood and sustainable development in India and globally, and the ability to communicate them effectively and persuasively.
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
  • Should be self-motivated and Impact Mission oriented.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
