Job Description

Dakshin Foundation aims to work with rural and peri-urban coastal communities to diversify their livelihoods and entrepreneurship through skill development, accessing rights and entitlements and resources crucial for entrepreneurship and sustainable blue economy based livelihoods. This position involves leading Dakshin’s livelihood and entrepreneurship initiatives associated with our integrated intervention - SeaChange. It includes, overseeing programmatic growth and expansion and aligning activities to complement ongoing initiatives at Dakshin Foundation across multiple sites.

Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to work with the senior management and programme heads at Dakshin Foundation to:

• Develop a vision and strategy for a Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship programme at Dakshin that complements Dakshin’s integrated systems-thinking based SeaChange initiative.
• Design, plan and oversee the implementation of inclusive, ecologically sustainable and contextual livelihood interventions that improve economic status and enhance the livelihoods of coastal communities, especially marine fisher communities.
• Forge new partnerships with CSOs and government institutions and build capacities of Dakshin’s field partners to achieve mutual goals.
• Develop feasible enterprise-building pilots and models, test innovative technologies and scale these up, as appropriate, across Dakshin Foundation’s field sites.
• Work closely with Dakshin’s existing programmes to build synergies to achieve ecological and economic sustainability in line with our organisational vision and approach.
• Oversee programme management including budget planning, programmatic financial reporting, utilisation of programmatic resources and develop programmatic monitoring and evaluation systems.
• Lead fundraising, and manage donor reporting and compliance, timely completion of targets and ensure that requirements of specific projects/donors are met.
• Supervise and manage programme staff including project staff recruitment, performance and appraisal, and ensure compliance with Dakshin policies.
• Contribute to institutional governance and development, in consultation with the senior management at Dakshin.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• A Master’s degree in Rural Development, Sustainable Development, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Social Work or related subjects
• At least 9 years of work experience, post-graduation, in implementing and managing sustainable rural livelihood projects in India, preferably in coastal and marine systems.
• The individual should have a strong understanding of the various issues, challenges and opportunities in the fisheries sector
• A strong understanding of the links between sustainable development, livelihood security, and natural resource management.
• Ability to develop projects proposals, raise funds, supervise and mentor programme staff, excellent project management skills and monitoring and evaluation skills
• Excellent communications skills (both written and oral) in English.
