Job Description
The Senior Specialist will provide leadership and technical expertise on gender and education, with a focus on strengthening public education systems, advancing curriculum reform, and building teacher and institutional capacity. The role requires demonstrated experience in developing gender-responsive curricula and teaching-learning materials, along with proven ability to engage government stakeholders, partners, and education bodies.
The incumbent will contribute to the implementation and evaluation of gender programs in school settings across diverse contexts, ensuring that evidence informs educational policies and practices. They will also oversee program design, monitoring and evaluation, manage teams and partnerships, and ensure delivery of high-quality results across multiple initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the design and review of gender-responsive curricula, and teaching-learning materials, ensuring alignment with national and state education frameworks.
- Provide technical expertise on embedding gender perspectives into pedagogy, classroom practices, and teacher training.
- Design and oversee monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks to assess gender and education interventions.
- Manage project planning, budgets, timelines, and reporting, ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple initiatives.
- Mentor and supervise project teams, consultants, and field staff, building their capacity to deliver on project objectives.
- Build and sustain partnerships with government bodies (e.g., education departments, SCERT, DIET), donors, and technical partners.
- Represent ICRW in policy dialogues, workshops, and consultations, and advocate for systemic reforms in education that advance gender equity.
- Lead production and dissemination of knowledge products (e.g., reports, policy briefs, training modules, presentations) and ensure project learnings are translated into actionable strategies for policymakers and practitioners.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Ensure effective project documentation, knowledge management, and compliance with institutional policies.
- Coordinate and contribute to strategic meetings, trainings, and workshops with partners, government stakeholders, and donors.
- Support organizational processes such as proposal development, donor reporting, and cross-team collaboration.
- Uphold and promote ICRW values of diversity, inclusion, safeguarding, and ethical research practice in all engagements.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Public Policy, Gender Studies, Education, or a related field. PhD preferred, with demonstrated expertise in gender and education.
Experience:
- Minimum 10–12 years of relevant experience (8–10 years for those with a PhD) in gender and education, including curriculum reform, pedagogy, and equity in education systems.
- Proven track record of developing gender-responsive curricula, textbooks, and teaching-learning materials.
- Significant experience working with or within public education systems (e.g., SCERT, DIET, textbook boards, state/national education departments).
- Demonstrated expertise in research design, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) in education and gender programming.
- Experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, supervising teams, and building capacity of educators, curriculum developers, and government partners.
- Prior experience engaging with donors, government officials, and civil society organizations for policy influence and systemic reform.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of gender, intersectionality, and child rights in education.
- Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize evidence and produce high-quality reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Strong organizational and partnership-building skills, with capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to review documents/literature, synthesize data, and independently draft reports.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet applications, including database tools.
- High level of proficiency in English and Hindi (written and spoken).
- Strong teamwork skills with ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate across diverse teams.
- Experience designing and conducting training or workshops with teachers or education officers.
- Familiarity with curriculum frameworks such as NCF (National Curriculum Framework) and NEP (National Education Policy).
- Knowledge of inclusive education and equity frameworks beyond gender (e.g., caste, disability, language, geography)
