Saksham project is an initiative by Avantha Foundation implemented in the tribal blocks of Maharashtra for reducing child malnutrition among 0-3 year age group children.  Saksham aims to improve Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) coverage by promoting nutrition-specific and sensitive interventions for pregnant women and children less than 3 years in selected tribal block of the state through a strategy of improving inter-departmental convergence, enhanced community demand for services and skills of service providers.

The State Coordinator – Saksham Project will closely work with the core project team at the Foundation office in Pune, field teams and with different government departments at the district and block levels.  S/he will travel to project districts and sites for a minimum of 15 days in a month.  S/he will report to the Senior Program Manager at the Foundation on all aspects of work undertaken and agreed formats and timelines.


Project Planning & Monitoring

  • Develops district action plans and timelines in consultation with district project teams and ensures smooth implementation of the project
  • Visits field areas frequently, at least once in a month per district
  • Conducts monthly review meetings of district teams, compiles monthly reports and shares them with the Foundation, RJMCHN Mission, and CEO Zilla Parishads
  • Mentors and supervises Project Coordinators and Saksham Fellows

Facilitating Inter-Departmental Coordination

  • Facilitates smooth implementation of the project, developing a common understanding among all stakeholders at the district and block levels about child health and nutrition
  • Visits project areas and liaisons with the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Block Development Officer and other concerned nutrition sensitive and specific departments
  • Participates in review meetings at district and block levels along with Project Coordinators to share progress of the project and explore possible ways to facilitate interdepartmental collaboration
  • Documents decisions taken at review meetings on improving Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition and follows up on actions planned by government officials


  • Identifies topics and conducts short studies with the help of Saksham Fellows
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Manager

Job requirements

  • Advanced degree in Social Sciences or any other relevant discipline.
  • At least five years’ experience in public health programs. Experience implementing MCHN programs a definite plus
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research
  • Good computer skills, especially in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Good English language skills, oral and written. Knowledge of Marathi and Hindi preferred
  • Willingness to travel to remote project locations in Maharashtra at least 15 days in a month
