Job Description

The Strategic Associate works closely with the DG of NCAER in every aspect of his managerial and research responsibilities, including strategic planning, written and oral communication, programme development and monitoring, board operations, fundraising, staffing, legal matters and financial management. You will be a lead part of the Director General’s front office, working with ease with NCAER co-workers at all levels, and often shadowing the Director General’s work. This high-energy and high-commitment position will allow you to immerse yourself fully in a comprehensive management, research, strategic, and operational experience of running one of India’s largest and most respected economics think tanks. The position offers unique opportunities for learning by doing as you work side by side with the Director General in meeting major institutional challenges and in making NCAER’s vision come alive every day in some form or the other.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Director General, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate strategic, institutional initiatives and projects of an immediate-, medium- or long-term nature
  • Help the Director General manage and develop donor, client, and sponsor relationships
  • Research and prepare briefs, background papers, speeches, and presentations for the Director General
  • Support the Director General with NCAER’s external outreach and communication work through the print and digital media, seminars, conferences, and media events
  • Help the Director General anticipate issues, concerns, and risks across other functions
  • Work seamlessly with NCAER’s senior professors, staff, consultants, and vendors to ensure coordination, collaboration, and communication with them
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Director General

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Masters degree or equivalent experience in economics, law, public policy, or business management. PhD will be preferred but not essential
  • Strong written and oral skills in English language
  • Research and problem solving skills in economics, law, or public policy
  • An obsession for excellence and attention to detail without missing the big picture and a rapid learner
  • Able to work hours commensurate with the DG’s responsibilities and timelines and manage work pressure
  • Strong project management skills, ability to multitask, excellent working knowledge of IT, digital platforms and use of AI
  • Able to exercise sound judgment in complex ethical, institutional and social situations; sensitive to and able to champion diversity issues
