About the Conference:

Female workers form the largest segment of India’s unorganized workforce. The social and economic profile of female workers is greatly affected by the nature of industrial sector where they work. In India, 94% of the total female workforce is found in the unorganized sector as per the estimate of the National Commission for Women (NCW). The dark side of this data is that they are exploited, overworked, underpaid, uncertain job security, not included in official statistics, their contribution is undocumented and many more issues that call for attention. The situation is worse in rural India.

It becomes necessary to strive towards enabling women to achieve equality and equal participation in this sphere by securing her due rights and entitlements through suitable policy formulation, legislative measures, effective enforcement of laws, implementation of schemes/policies and devising strategies for solution of specific problems/ situations arising out of discrimination and atrocities against women. This conference is an effort to create awareness and enlighten minds regarding the existing conditions under which women work in unorganized sector. The papers and discussions would brainstorm on how to make Indian women secure in her home as well as outside, fully empower to assess all her rights and entitlements, with opportunity to contribute equally in all spheres. In order to achieve these results, it becomes necessary to generate collective awareness resulting into wisdom and policy formulation.
