Applications Invited for ICSSR Post-Doctoral and Senior Fellowships 2020-21

About the Organization:

Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) was established in the year of 1969 by the Government of India to promote research in social sciences in the country. ICSSR provide grants for projects, fellowships, international collaboration, capacity building, survey, publications etc. to promote research in social sciences in India. ICSSR has developed ICSSR Data Service to serve as a national data service for promoting powerful research environment through sharing and reuse of data among social science community in India.

Post-Doctoral and Senior Fellowships 2020-21

ICSSR invites online applications for (i) Post-Doctoral Fellowships (PDF) and (ii) Senior Fellowships (SF) for 2020-21 from Indian scholars. The proposals should be in some social science discipline or should have substantial social science contents if it happens to be interdisciplinary or trans-disciplinary in nature.

Considering the current global problem of Covid-19 pandemic and also the convenience of the applicants in such times, ICSSR has made changes in its procedure while inviting applications for fellowships, projects, seminars and other research-related activities.

At this stage, it will be an entirely online submission of applications. The hard copy/copies of the application will be required only after short-listing of candidates for presentation & interaction or before the issuance of award letters, as the case may be.

Eligibility:

Senior Fellowships:

• The scholar should not be less than 45 and more than 70 years of age on the last date of application.
• The scholar must possess a Ph.D. degree in any of the social science disciplines with outstanding research publications at the time of application.
• Senior government and defence officers (not less than 25 years of regular service) and persons with proven Social Science expertise possessing a Ph. D. degree in any social science disciplines and demonstrable research experience through publications of books/research papers/reports can also apply.
• A fellow is required to affiliate himself/ herself to an ICSSR Research Institute/ institutes of national importance as approved by MHRD/ government research institute/public funded university including deemed university of his/her choice. Funds are disbursed through the affiliating/administering institution. In case of need, a scholar may be affiliated to an ICSSR regional centre.
• Faculties with regular service in public funded universities/colleges and research institutes getting UGC pay-scales may be considered for pay protection in exceptionally meritorious cases to be decided by the Expert Committees of the ICSSR. The Expert Committee of the ICSSR also reserves the right to convert a fellowship proposal into a Project Proposal.

Post-Doctoral Fellowships:

• The scholar should not be more than 45 years of age on the last date of application. There shall be an age relaxation of 5 years for applicants belonging to SC/ST categories and Persons with Benchmark Disability.
• The scholar must possess a Ph.D. degree in any of the social science disciplines at the time of application.
• A fellow is required to affiliate himself/herself to an ICSSR Research Institute/ institutes of national importance as approved by MHRD/ government research institutes/public funded Indian university including deemed university/college having approved Ph.D. programme and requisite research infrastructure of his/her choice. Funds are disbursed through the affiliating/administering institution.
• Faculties with regular service of minimum two years in public funded universities/colleges and research institutes getting UGC pay-scales may be considered for pay protection in exceptionally meritorious cases to be decided by the expert Committee(s) of the ICSSR. The Expert Committee of the ICSSR also reserves the right to convert a fellowship proposal into a Project Proposal.
