Selection Criteria

The scholarship assessment process considers the following criteria:

  • compliance with mandatory criteria for entry to the program and the criteria associated with each scholarship
  • the extent to which the participant is ready to benefit from the program
  • the potential benefits from enhancing the participant's leadership ability
  • the extent to which the participant has the characteristics typically associated with people who benefit the most from leadership development programs.

More specifically, the scholarship assessment process follows the following steps:

  • Assessment of whether the applicant meets the eligibility criteria for the Water Leadership Program and scholarships (note that all scholarships have specific criteria associated with them).
  • Assessment of information provided by the applicant which is used to assess their potential to benefit from the program (50% weighting).
  • Assessment of information supplied directly from the applicant’s referees which is also used to assess the potential of the applicant to benefit from the program (50% weighting).
  • If the assessment process indicates that two applicants are equally likely to benefit from the program, the scholarship assessment panel will also consider the applicants’ employers and their probable potential to pay for the applicants to enter the program as fee-paying participants. For example, in the circumstance where an applicant from a large water authority is equally ranked with an applicant from a small local government authority, the local government employee would be offered the scholarship.
