About the Organization:

The Hague Academy is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation established by VNG International in 2006, and with the support from the municipality of The Hague. The Hague Academy for Local Governance specialises in practice-oriented training courses and study visits for civil servants, local practitioners, and professionals at donor and development organisations. Through training and education programmes, they seek to develop knowledge and skills required to improve local governance and decentralisation in developing and post-conflict societies.

Nuffic Scholarships for Short-Term Courses

Nuffic scholarships are available for short courses at The Hague Academy. Nuffic is a Dutch non-profit organisation which offers scholarships for training courses in The Netherlands. These scholarships seek to develop and strengthen the skills and abilities of professionals, in order to enable their organisations and communities to succeed in an ever-changing world. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds the Nuffic Scholarship programme.

The Nuffic Scholarships for short courses at The Hague Academy (OKP, MSP and StuNed) cover the tuition fee, return flights (from an international airport to Amsterdam), insurance, and accommodation, in addition to a small Daily Subsistence Allowance.

Courses

  • Course on Inclusive Service Delivery & the SDGs: This course discusses how different levels of government can cooperate effectively and involve citizens and the private sector to promote pro-poor local service delivery.
  • Course on Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance: In this training course, participants will discuss ways to involve citizens-especially minorities and marginalized groups to create a culture of inclusive governance.
  • Course on Climate Adaptation and Local Resilience: The course discusses how local authorities can adapt to climate change and increase their climate resilience. The course starts by discussing climate change projections and scenarios and further explore the policy implications of climate change projections in a case study.
  • Course on Local Economic Development: This practice-oriented course focuses on strengthening the economic capacity of local and regional communities. This course will explore strategies and tools for local authorities to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth and decent work for all.
  • Course on Urban Governance: Resilient and Smart Cities: This course on urban governance focuses on strategies, frameworks, and tools to strengthen cities’ resilience: their ability to absorb and recover from internal and external shock or stress, maintain their essential functions and adapt and thrive in the face of continual change.

  • The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) is a Dutch global development program. The objective of the Orange Knowledge Programme is to contribute to society’s sustainable and inclusive development by strengthening the skills and knowledge of both individuals, groups of individuals, and organizations.
  • The Nuffic Scholarships for short courses at The Hague Academy cover the tuition fee, return flights (from an international airport to Amsterdam), insurance, and accommodation, in addition to a small Daily Subsistence Allowance
