About the Organization
The Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) promotes education for international understanding and global citizenship to build a culture of peace.
Mission:
- Cultures of peace are based on respect for life, rejection of violence,--whether it be physical, psychological, structural, cultural, or ecological,--respect for cultural diversity, mutual understanding, tolerance, human rights, democratic participation, gender equality, and sustainable development.
- APCEIU contributes to building a culture of peace by promoting Education for International Understanding (EIU) and Global Citizenship (GCED). EIU and GCED aim to enable learners to critically analyze the root causes of inequalities, discrimination, hatred, violence, and ecological destruction, to enhance interpersonal, social, and ecological empathy, and to engage in an act of solidarity and cooperation to tackle such problems.
- Working under the auspices of UNESCO, APCEIU contributes to achieving the goals of UNESCO as set out in its Constitution, normative documents, and Medium-Term Strategy, focusing on EIU and GCED.
About the Event
We have observed the growing inequality in every corner of the world. The phenomenon was exacerbated by the COVID-19. All are affected but the most vulnerable people are hit the hardest. What about young people? How are youth affected by the worsening inequality in multiple forms? And how do young people foresee their future?
There is no single solution to this complex problem. Among many efforts required, empowering youth as agents of their own future is imperative. Along with the inclusive policies and governance, supporting young people is essential to fight against the inequality and work together to create a more inclusive society.
Global citizenship can become a driver of shaping a better future for all. Fostering a sense of common humanity and universal values, global citizenship encouarges us to critically reflect on our unequal and unsustainable world and take action in solidarity to tackle the root causes such as discrimination, violence, hatred, environmental crisis, and injustice. Moreover, global citizenship education (GCED) guides us the direction of combating the problems and moving forward towards a brighter future for young people.
Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) has focused on youth empowerment through global citizenship education since 2015. Every year, the Youth Leadership Workshop on GCED (Global Citizenship Education) has been held inviting 50 young leaders around the globe to discuss, share, exchange, network and learn together. Serving as a venue for mutual growth and partnership, the Workshop has trained over 400 young changemakers in different parts of the world.
In 2023, APCEIU holds its 9th Youth Leadership Workshop on GCED under the theme of “Global citizenship and youth empowerment for inclusive futures for all”. The Workshop will invite the active global citizens who aspire to work together to build a more inclusive society for all by combating the inequality through innovation, commitment, solidarity, and common vision and hope for a better future.
