About the Award

We’re delighted to announce round five of the British Council and Unlimited Micro Awards, funded by the British Council and administrated by Unlimited.

The aim of these awards is to help facilitate partnership and collaboration between artists and/or collectives in the UK and countries eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Micro grants will be awarded to approximately 10 pairs of disabled artists.

These awards are to support collaborations: small-scale opportunities for a pair of disabled artists to work together internationally. The collaboration can be focussed around artistic elements like networking, exchanging resources and ideas, peer mentorship, and sharing skills.

If both artists would like to further develop the collaboration into a full-scale project, they are welcome to apply for the next round of Unlimited International Partner Awards, to be announced in summer 2023.

Budget:

Each application can be for up to £2500. Artists and their collaborators, together, decide how the funds will be distributed, i.e. what portion are artist fees and what portion is allocated to running costs, e.g. translation, money transfer charges, equipment, administration, subscriptions, etc. In their submission, applicants will be asked to show a budget, outlining how the funds will be distributed.

Access funding is available separately both to support access to applications (see ‘How to Apply’) and/or access to support the project. In the budget, applicants will be asked to give figures for the access costs of both the UK artist and the international collaborator. This is to ensure that the fund can cover all costs and will not form part of the panel’s decision-making.

Funding from this award can cover 100% of the collaboration costs, or part-fund them if other sources of funding are available.

Who can apply

In order to be eligible, proposals must adhere to the following criteria:

  • Collaborations must be led by a disabled artist/s or collective based in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales
  • The international collaborator must be a disabled artist/s or collective based in countries in receipt of Official Development Assistance
  • Collaborations must be feasible within the given budget
  • Collaborations must be feasible within the given timescale
  • Artists whose work centres around disability and/or impairment are welcome to apply, as are those whose work does not
