The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Delhi (IITD) is uniquely placed to make a significant contribution to the world of research and education, both because of the nature of the Department and by virtue of its location in one of India's premier science and technology institutions.

Theme and Objective:

Central to the thematic evolution of a sustainable society (locally, nationally, and globally) is the idea of a modern risk society, the recognition and need to further community resilience (urban and rural), manage natural hazards and mitigate disasters, and secure disaster risk reduction (DRR).

The five-day certificate course being organized at IIT Delhi will expose participants to recent debates, trends, and relevant policy shifts in DRR and how national and state governments are engaged in disaster preparedness and professionals are responding to these emergent challenges on the ground.

  • Basic Concepts, Understanding Disasters and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
  • Risk Society and Community Resilience
  • Sustainable Development Goals and Sendai Framework
  • Law, Institutions and Disaster Governance
  • Urban Environment and Citizens
  • Risk Insurance
  • Blue Green Infrastructure as DRR and CCA Tool
  • National Disaster Management Plan
  • State Disaster Management Plans (select)
  • Human Trafficking, and Gender Dimensions of Disaster
  • Non-Humans and Disaster
  • Case studies of Natural Disaster (Sikkim/Kerala/Kashmir)
  • Field Visit and interaction with National Disaster Response Professionals

Who can attend/participate:

  • Faculty members and research scholars from TEQIP III affiliated institutions and colleges. Seats are limited to 30 participants and accommodation at the IIT Delhi guesthouse and or hostels are available only for 20-26 participants. Approved list of TEQIP III institutions is available at http://cepqip.iitd.ac.in/teqip.php

Course Fee, Travel Support, and Accommodation:

  • For TEQIP III approved institutes there is no course fee, no charges for refreshments and accommodation for six nights for the selected Faculty/Research Scholars. Third AC train fare will be provided to participants from TEQIP-III institutes after submission of original tickets/bills and subsequent processing of their TA form.   • Boarding and lodging on sharing basis is available on IIT Delhi campus and in adjoining guest-houses for outstation candidates of TEQIP III Institutes from the evening of 23 February 2020 to 28 February 2020. For participants from TEQIP III approved Institutes there are no charges, but places are limited.
  • For non-TEQIP III institutes, the participants will be charged a nominal fee of Rs.2500/- however, these participants will have to bear their travel and accommodation costs (limited seats). This nominal fee will cover registration, refreshments (tea and lunch), and course material. IIT Delhi is not able to offer them or help arrange their accommodation.

Technical Sessions will begin on 24 February (9.30 am) and end on 28 February 2020 (5pm). So book your tickets and plan your travel accordingly.
