E-Training Programme on Community Based Approaches For Sustainable Livelihood and Climate Resilience Adaptation Practices (SLACC – 2)

About the Organization:

National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) is a premier Institute of national and international repute in terms of capacity-building and research in the realm of Rural Development and related aspects.

Background:

Climate change has adversely affected the agriculture and livelihoods of the rural people. We need rapid strides and higher quality science to overcome the challenges and management of the natural resources to the climate change. There are various adaptation and mitigation strategies tested and validated for the management of the resources. Nonetheless, adoption of these technologies as climate resilient practices is limited. A special purpose vehicle/framework for driving these practices is essential to improve the adoption at community level.

Context:

The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) have developed certificate training programme on Sustainable Livelihoods and Adaptation to Climate Change (SLACC) for first of its kind to train the Community Resource Persons (CRPs) and Mission Staff. The SLACC programme has trained 200 CRPs and 120 Mission Staff as master trainers from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during 2019-20. A package of 25 technology interventions was prioritized for farm level activities in climate resilience. These aim to reduce the farming cost, improve yield and income, profitability, empower women and generate employment. NIRDPR has developed the training module in collaboration with CRIDA- Central Research Institute of Dry land Agriculture, Hyderabad as knowledge partners.

Objectives

  • To orient about the climate change and variability, its impacts and their linkages for the need of adaptation strategies
  • To create awareness on the climate change adaptation planning process and mapping the interventions to the risk
  • To generate knowledge on the crop and livelihood based climate resilient interventions
