About the Organization

The H&M Foundation is a philanthropic foundation for public good, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. It is privately funded by the Stefan Persson family, founders and main owners of the H&M Group. Our vision is to enable an inclusive and planet positive textile industry. To get there we explore new opportunities, collaborate with different partners, support innovation and use storytelling as a tool to inspire action. To contribute to real systems change, we openly share breakthrough innovation and solutions for anyone to adopt and scale. The H&M Foundation can also provide emergency relief.

We are a non-profit foundation, initiated to co-create, fund and share solutions for the world’s most urgent challenges. Sprung from our entrepreneurial heritage, it is in our core to disrupt traditional systems through unexpected collaborations. To help safeguard the welfare of humanity we’re ushering the fashion industry to become planet positive, and we accelerate development for inclusive societies.

About the Award

We are looking for bright minds that can transform fashion and change the way it is seen, worn, and made. The aim of the Global Change Award is to find, support and scale disruptive ideas that can protect our planet and turn the fashion and textile industry into a planet positive one.

Regenerative fibres, resources looping in never-ending cycles and reimagined supply chain solutions. The momentum to transform the industry has never been stronger.

With a planet positive mindset, the fashion industry can operate in ways that regenerates instead of depletes earth’s resources.

Our aim is to find planet positive technologies that extend beyond circular economy and climate change, and instead consider all aspects of earth’s natural support systems. This will lead to a true shift for the textile industry.

The shift will also bring new benefits for the industry and customers alike. Reduced risks of resource exhaustion, cleaner processes, less chemicals, longer garment life cycles and improved customer relationships are all parts of a planet positive fashion world – where the clothes we wear don’t come with a planetary price tag we cannot afford.

For 2023, the GCA is turning it up a notch. We are updating our scope to cover more ground, raise the bar on innovation and help shift the industry into a planet positive one. The winning ideas should fall into one of three categories:

  • Regenerate – solutions towards planet positive effects
  • Repurpose – solutions towards circularity
  • Reimagine – solutions we have not even thought about yet

What you win:

Five winning teams share a grant of 1 million euros and venture into the year-long GCA Impact Accelerator programme which includes invaluable coaching and support from the H&M Foundation and our partners Accenture, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and The Mills Fabrica.
