Workshop on Social Network Approach to Organization/ Management Research

About the Organization:

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad or IIMA) is a public business school located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The institute offers Master’s Degree programmes in management and agri-business management, a fellowship programme and a number of executive training programmes.

Overview:

Social network approach is increasingly being used across various disciplines such as organizational studies, management, business, sociology, political science, communications, physics, computational biology, medical chemistry etc. Research studies that leverage network approaches to social, management, and business phenomena are increasing in social sciences including management and organization research.  In this workshop we will learn how to apply social network approach to test various theories.

This workshop is geared towards providing expertise in social network conceptualization and analysis that covers various theories, conceptualization, operationalization, data collection, research ethics, and data analysis, through hands on practice on UCINET software.

Objectives:

The primary objectives of the workshop are as follows:

• Impart participants basic and advanced concepts of Social Network Approach (SNA)
• Advance participants’ understanding about testing theories using SNA
• Develop participants’ knowledge framework and analysis skills to establish them as management scientist and impart ability to evaluate SNA based empirical research critically.
• Build confidence and capability in participants to apply various SNA techniques and tools
• Expose participants to the use of UCINET for testing various Social Network models

Application Process and Deadline (April 15, 2020):

• In order to maximize the usefulness of the workshop, participation in the workshop is by invitation only. Interested scholars should submit an application form by April 15, 2020. These applications will be screened by workshop instructors and shortlisted scholars will be notified by April 23, 2020. Shortlisted scholars will have to confirm their participation by paying the registration fee by May 15, 2020.

Registration Fees, Accommodation and Details:

• The fees for the workshop are INR 1000. Please note that accommodation charges are not included in the fees. The above fee includes lunch, snacks and all instructional materials. Only limited number of scholars whose applications get shortlisted, will be invited to register for the workshop.

Who should attend: All doctoral students who are currently enrolled in PhD/FPM program across India.
