Dispensaries on wheels for labourers

Gujarat State Labour and Employment department in its fight against the pandemic is leaving no stone unturned and is utilizing ‘Dhanvantari Arogya Rath’, the doorstep mobile medical unit service, for the construction and other migrant’s workers.
The Gujarat Building and other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board operates 34 Dhanvantari Arogya Raths in 22 districts to provide healthcare services to construction workers at construction sites and kadiya nakas (workers’ markets). Each unit is equipped with a doctor, a nurse, and two other staff.
The Raths are deployed near the shelters made by the government, and their movement is monitored through GPS. The statistics show that cold and cough, skin diseases, body-ache, fever, weakness, and joint pain, are among the common ailments diagnosed among the workers.
These Raths overlooks the arrangement of free medicine at the labour camps, and also spread the message of the social distancing through loud speakers.
Vipul Mittra IAS, ACS labour and employment department said, “We have instructed Building and Other Constructions Workers’ Welfare board officials to visit the construction labour camps on sites and also the government labour shelters to address any food related issues and to ensure the mental and physical wellbeing of labours and their family is taken care of in these trying times”.
He further added, “We are committed to the welfare of our worker and labourers community and will ensure that all the workers feel and stay safe.
Some of the districts in which the Dhanvantari Arogya Raths are operational include Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Anand, Morbi, Kutch, Rajkot, and Mehsana.
