Synchrony donates medical equipment to Niloufer Hospital and MNJ Institute of Oncology

Synchrony (NYSE: SYF), a premier consumer financial services company, has donated 3 nos of Wipro GE Healthcare Versana Active and LOGIQ V2 portable ultrasound devices to Niloufer Hospital and MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Centre(Paediatric wing) in the esteemed presence of The Honourable Governor of Telangana, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan. Both public hospitals work extensively in treating thousands of underprivileged children and other paediatric patients suffering from various ailments and cancer completely free of cost. This effort is in continuation to Synchrony’s work with Saksham, a charitable national organization dedicated to the empowerment of persons with disabilities, early intervention, prevention of disability and to facilitate their overall development through its Youth, Research, Employment, Advocacy, Sports and Arts wings and United Care Development Services, also known as UC (YouSee), a Philanthropy Exchange and giving platform which facilitates contributions to generate resources for result oriented social work, primarily in the area of Healthcare, Education and Environment.

The portable ultrasound devices will provide Niloufer’s Neonatology and Pediatric departments with additional capability of diagnosing newborns and children suffering with congenital heart defects, brain haemorrhages, intracranial haemorrhages, hydrocephalus, abcessess and third spacing in pulmonary, pericardial, abdominal spaces, lung infections, etc., right at their bed. Annually at least 4,000 infants and children are expected to benefit out of this effort by Synchrony. With COVID-19, Niloufer has also seen upsurge in Kawasaki-like disease in COVID-recovered children which can also be managed in time with this ultrasound machine.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of childhood cancer cases in the and according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (lCMR), there will be almost 1.57 million new cases of cancer in India by 2025.Theultrasound machineshelp strengthen- the paediatric oncology unit of MNJ to diagnose cancer diseases in children bedside where CT and MRI may be difficult to perform. In addition, exposure to radiation and improved image quality enables MNJ to detect internal bleeding, lung infection, etc., while treating the patients. Close to 450+ in-patients/year and 1500+ outpatients/year are expected to benefit from the ultrasound technology donated by Synchrony.
