Title: Applications Invited for 2020 Blog Writing Competition

Organization: ISWA Young Professionals Group

Deadline: 2nd October, 2020

About:

ISWA Young Professionals Group was set-up in 2013 by enthusiastic young professionals from around the world who share a passion for sustainable resource management. ISWA Young Professionals Group (YPG) calls on young professionals and students from around the world to create a blog post exploring how COVID-19 exposed fragilities and strengths of waste management worldwide.

Criteria:

  • Entries must be in English. Writing should be concise and correct. British or American spelling is accepted if used consistently throughout the post.
  • Entrants must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Entries must be submitted by the author and not on someone else’s behalf.
  • Each entrant may only submit one blog post.
  • The blog post must be original.
  • All sources must be cited using either APA or Chicago style.
  • It is not a requirement to be a member of ISWA. However, participants (especially those who are considering a career in the waste industry) are encouraged to join ISWA to access invaluable benefits and support to progress in their careers. Discounted participation rates to ISWA events and Congresses are available to students.

C-CAMP is a not-for-profit organization mandated to enable cutting-edge life science research and innovation, and promote life science entrepreneurship. This is a nationwide competition to attract, identify, and nurture bio-entrepreneurs working on novel and scalable business ideas with significant societal impact. Criteria:

For Student Teams:

  • Students currently in a graduate, post graduate or PhD program.
  • Students must apply as a team of four, should identify one member as the team leader.
  • Team Leader should be the main/primary applicant.
  • All student team members should have valid student ID.

For Start Ups/Individuals:

  • Companies include start-ups, MSMEs and other large companies
  • Individuals can be post doc, faculty, scientist, working professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs

Title: Applications Invited for Qatar Foundation’s Art Contest: ‘The Untold Stories of Resilience’

Qatar Foundation is a non-profit organization made up of more than 50 entities working in education, research, and community development. To capture the world’s artistic responses to COVID-19, The Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums are organizing a digital Art Contest and online exhibition in the framework of the Paris Peace Forum. It’s titled ‘The Untold Stories of Resilience’ and will highlight human resilience in times of crisis.

Criteria:

  • All artists over the age of 16 from around the world are encouraged to submit their work to be considered for the exhibition. Galleries or agents representing artists are also accepted. Artists working in all mediums and forms of expression are welcome to apply.
  • The contest encourages all thoughtful interpretations of the theme. Priority will be given to those works that investigate issues and topics relevant to the community, are intellectually accessible, and provide opportunities for reflection to audience.
  • Only artwork that utilizes digital technology in its process will be accepted for the content. Examples include digital painting, digital drawing, digital photography, pixel art, digital collage, videography, animation, VR, renders of functional art/product design, and any kind of 2D or 3D visual media or 2D or 3D digital imagery.
  • Scans or photographs of original artworks are not accepted.

At HITLAB, they believe technology and health can work together to improve the quality of health delivery and healthcare worldwide. This event is a competition to identify emerging technologies that use innovative endeavors in digital healthcare technology to improve the state of women’s health on a global scale.

Criteria:

  • Individuals who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry are legal residents of countries where such challenges are allowed by the laws of those countries (excluding the residents of Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria).
  • Teams of eligible individuals wherein each team member meet the eligibility requirements for individual Contestants.
  • Though contestants may be affiliated with larger organizations, for the Challenge, a team of eligible individuals may only have a maximum of three (3) individuals represent each team.

Title: Applications Invited for Thomson Reuters Foundation ‘COVID-19: The Bigger Picture’ Competition 2020

TRF is the London-based charitable foundation founded in 1983 by Thomson Reuters. The photo competition is open to anyone with a passion for turning the lens on the real lives behind the headlines, and an ability to capture the most powerful images of the pandemic’s impact on everyday people.

Criteria:

  • Open to all people with an interest in photography, may the extent of their interest be professional, amateur, journalistic, a hobby, opportunistic or even accidental. All entries should focus on the theme of the human impact of COVID-19.
  • Applicants should be at least 18 years of age on the last date for entry. Proof of age may be required.
  • Photographs submitted may be published or unpublished. All Photographs must be original (meaning not using third party copyright materials) but can be pre-existing or created especially for this Award.
  • Entrants must be available to attend the online masterclass, which will be taught in English. This is provisionally scheduled for January 2021, but reasonable notice of the final dates will be provided to the winning Entrants.

Organization: Whitley Fund for Nature

The Whitley Fund for Nature is a fundraising and grant-giving nature conservation charity offering recognition, training and grants to support the work of proven grassroots conservation leaders across the Global South. Winning a Whitley Award is not just about receiving financial support; it comes with a significant boost in profile and provides an international stage for winners to draw attention to the environmental issues they face.

Criteria:

  • Not High Income Economy countries – Wildlife conservation projects led by local leaders based in countries that are not defined as a High Income Economy by the World Bank. Exceptions to this criterion include Equatorial Guinea and certain island nations in the Caribbean.
  • Nationals with local support – a key focus of the Whitley Award is to boost the profile of leaders who are nationals of the country in which they are working. There are some exceptions, for example long term residency (15+ years) or commitment to country/region/ building capacity of local team members for future leadership.
  • Whitley Award seeks grassroots conservationists from locally incorporated NGOs in developing countries, rather than in-country staff employed by NGOs headquartered in developed countries – but if you are in doubt please contact them.
  • Good communicators and passionate people – people who will inspire others and importantly, who will collaborate and share results. Please note applicants must be able to communicate in English.
