Organization: The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund
Apply By: 31 Dec 2020
Grant Amount: 25000 USD
About the Organization:
The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund is an innovative philanthropy proving small grants to boots-on-the-ground, get-your-hands-dirty, in-the-field species conservation projects for the world’s most threatened species. Through innovative micro-financing, the MBZ Fund empowers conservationists to fight the extinction crisis instead of bureaucracy and red-tape. To date the Fund has awarded over 2000 grants to a diverse range of species across the world.
MBZ Species Conservation Fund
The MBZ Species Conservation Fund will TEMPORARILY change the primary focus of its small grants for the next two rounds of grant giving (application deadlines of 31st October, 2020 and 28th February, 2021). Grants will now be awarded to support the core operational costs of local, grassroots, species conservation organisations, which are struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result face personnel or financial constraints in conducting species conservation work in 2021. The grant size will remain a maximum of $25,000, but the minimum grant size will be $15,000 for this period.
Please note that for this temporary period, applications from international NGOs, government-related entities, universities and other academic institutions will not be eligible. Furthermore, international travel, meetings (including Redlist workshops, conservation action plan workshops etc), and other costs which are not core operational costs in support of conservation work, will not be eligible.
This temporary initiative is based on the results of a survey of previous grant recipients conducted in April/May 2020 to assess the impact of the pandemic on field conservation activities, and is a reaction to the problems highlighted by those previous grant recipients.
Eligibility:
- Please note that for this temporary period, applications from international NGOs, government-related entities, universities and other academic institutions will not be eligible.
- Furthermore, international travel, meetings (including Redlist workshops, conservation action plan workshops etc), and other costs which are not core operational costs in support of conservation work, will not be eligible.
- Any application that does not meet these criteria will not be considered for this Covid-19 Relief Grant. The MBZ Fund will resume accepting applications for its traditional small grant programme for direct species conservation in March 2021.
- Individual consultants whose work is focussed on in situ species conservation will also be considered for support.
- Special consideration will be given to eligible organisations with multiple prior grants from the MBZ Fund.
Grant:
- Grants will be awarded based on demonstrated need to independent, local NGOs and are for maximum of $25,000.
- The grant size will remain a maximum of $25,000, but the minimum grant size will be $15,000 for this period in order to ensure that the grants awarded have a genuine beneficial impact on an organisation.
